From the looks of it this is clearly the best racetrack in the world by a mile. We have nothing even close to this in the United States.

Tapeta is great stuff. Much better than polytrack. The nice thing is they tested it out in their climate and did everything right, unlike the people in California.

Golden Gate (California) is Tapeta, no?

Yeah, the automatic beheading rule for thieves and street bums pretty much insures no pissing in the corners or pick pockets.

On the serious side, how are they going to get the plastic stuff to hold up under the heat? Air condition the track?? If the Sheiks can do it, surely Santa Anita can get a government bailout for a few billion and copy their success. :D

These are not the times for wretched excess. I can't get excited about this.

GG is Tapeta, yes.

I think the posts about the stuff in California being unacceptable is aimed more towards the southern part of the state.

The new Meydan race course is a prime example of your petro dollars at work.

while the negatives on surface and spent money are good points both have positive effects for horseplayers.

surface = the world has a need for a high stakes, classic distance race on synthetic to which all the worlds top horses may be courted. Even if you dislike the synthetic - it's better for you than making it's permanent home at Santa Anita. And if you like these races you don't have to miss out.

money = whether it's in bad "taste" or not, it's good for horse racing.

Some things are bigger than racing.

No wonder the country is in default, what was wrong with the other track?
