It's your money. Tell em you won't give up another dime until they fix it. There are plenty of other tracks where you can invest.

That’s good advice. Not always so easy to follow but good advice.

now that the table games are coming it's time for ct (and pen too) to start rewarding on track players for their loyalty by giving them the full rebates that adw customers are getting plus a percentage of what the adws are keeping.

it's insane that players who've never set foot in pen or ct can call some adw in north dakota and get double digit rebates while players who religiously attend the track(s), buy track food and drinks, and play track slots (and now table games) are getting tenths of percent by swiping their account cards.

Some people really are obsessed with the tote board at CT. I don't get it. I'm a regular there and never look at the thing. There are an abundance of TV's that list your odds, your 4 digit payouts, your inquiries, and your superfectas. The TV screen on the tote board could be bigger, but, at least it doesn't block your view of too much of the track.

By the way, given that Charles Town just upgraded its entire video operation to HD, and is in the process of switching all of the TVs to HD sets, I can't imagine them spending any money on the tote board in the near future.

Assuming all goes as planned with the table games, and the place is flush with money in a year or two  ...here is my Charles Town wish list (other then improving overnigh purses, of course):

1. Up the salary of the state vet, then hire a new one. The current guy makes something like 85K, which is chicken feed for a true equine specialist. Hence, he's a dog and cat guy, not a horse guy, and many of his scratches defy logic and science.

2. Improve the outdoor seating area. Some new benches, ones that can withstand the weather would be a start. Putting some betting machines and TVs outside would be nice as well. Maybe even set up a real outdoor concession and bar for summer nights.

3. Improve the gate crew and starter situation. It simply takes too long to get horses loaded, race in and race out.

4. Better lighting in the barn area. For a track that runs at night, its amazing how dark the barn area is. I fear for the day when some nutcase comes driving through there too fast and hits a horse being walked to the paddock because it was too dark to see anything.

5. Better security guards. Without going into too much detail, if you spend any time there, you know that the overall security situation can be improved.

6. And this isn't a real biggie, but giving connections a few free winners circle photos would be nice, especially for the cheaper races.

for a track that frequently struggles to get four digit rolling double pools, i'd say that the purses are already more than high enough and that taking steps to generate more handle and public interest in the game should be a top priority of even the horsemen...... lest the day comes when charleston takes a close look at what they're subsidizing here and just pulls the plug.

I read that whole different way. I thought you meant to seed the pools, as in, say, putting 20, 000 on each entry in the "Classic" which struck me as a great idea. Especially, from a track that seems to have a whole lotta money to throw around from bloodsucking slots players. But, of course, never enough to give a big night to the players.
