8 to 10 games have been played now and Kansas continues moving up. Syracuse has had the best performances to date, though, and have beaten all 3 top 25 teams they've faced.

NC is interesting. They have played 4 top 25 teams so far. They won two of those and the two losses were close, yet, this system still has them rated lower than Cornell.

Cornell at 7-2 looks pretty good this year. They only lost to Syracuse by 15. And Seton Hall (8-0) beat them by 10.

So maybe NC is not as good as Cornell at this point in the season?

I didn't think Temple beating Villanova was a big upset. I had Temple rated only 3 points lower than Nova last week. Temple moves into my top 10.

Last week, Florida and Texas were #1 and #2. Syracuse beat Florida Thursday night. Texas is still undefeated and is in the tough Big 12, but they dropped a few notches down to 6th.

The Big East is real tough again this year WVU and Uconn as well as Syracuse and Gtown could beat anyone on any given night. Syracuse has a zone that is tough to penetrate and several outstanding role players which gives them a slight nod over Kansas as of right now. Let's see how each of the top 10 comes out of conference play in January, like Bobby Knight said "you don't win NCAA championships in November".

I have no idea how your ranking work, so don't take this as an insult, but a serious inquiry: How do New Mexico, Coastal Carolina and Murray State rank above Kentucky? I'm not a huge fan, but they are a seriously good basketball team.

Nebraska is 38 pts better than Creighton? The blue jays beat the huskers by 6.

You are correct that there are some dubious rankings. It's early in the season and I don't have many data points. This system is most effective after about 30 games. I've explained how it works in other threads and don't want to keep repeating it. If you look at some of my other threads here you will find the details.

Basically, it's a who-beat-who system. The best teams rise to the top because they beat other teams with good ratings.

Since every team starts the season at 1000 points, a lot of teams can get high ratings without having to beat the best teams -- especially when they play out of conference games. In a few more weeks the ratings will sort themselves out.

But note how many top 10 teams this system got right. Kansas as slowly been climbing the to the top. Sure they deserved to be at the top from the start because there is a lot of information about them. My system only uses the final score of each team and the two teams' previous game ratings. It's remarkable that it does so well.

Google "Arpad Elo" for information.

If these or national ratings are telling the tale, Purdue-W Va will be a good game here in a couple weeks and give an ndication of the two conferences as well
