what a joke. 3 year investigation revealed Tellers bet. And a $10,000 short on a 10 Million Handle is Stugatz. its .01%.
and the CFO from $140,000.00 could'nt find reciepts for 10% of his F & B expenses. Big deal. If thats what they found in three years I'd say NYRA is running a tight ship.

Excite throws up 5 advertisements on the page. The storys nothing but a reason to create a WWW page to put some ads they sold on it.

Its a Couple of steps above the Miami Herald story. But not to far off. Theres no story.

What a joke. This is where our tax money goes. I wonder how much was spend in the 3 year bogus investigation. I know tellers have been betting from the tray since the early 1960's. No money was actually lost as they always setteled up, one way or another.

I was just getting ready to post the same thing that I just read on Iwon. As for the shortages and whatnot of the tellers, last year there were I think 3 fired for "embezzling" out of the draw and tax fraud, or something to that extent.

I heard well over $2 million was spent on this 3 year investigation and all they come up with is a handfull of mutuel clerks and parking attendants running small scams.

Spitzer is obviously trying to parlay this NYRA shakeup on his resume for gov. Hopefully the intellegent people of NY will see past this BS report.

Excellent retort by NYRA and Schwartz....bravo!

I'm inclined to completely side with NYRA on this one....this AG report might be one step above the Herald/Santos debacle....manufactured half-truths.

I don't know...the full report is available here http://tinyurl.com/ecsu under "reports" and what bothers me is that there is more than accusation as the investigators were actually scammed and I'm not just talking about "drops!"

I thought it was the usual crap investigation...... until I read they were scamming "new bettors" at the windows......that does suck.

Very interesting article if you take the time to read the whole indictment report on the NY state govt site described in the above post. I think that, while the report was written for a 5th grader to understand pari-mutual wagering in NY, the investigation DOES draw attention to some SERIOUS short comings by NYRA and their mutual department.

A major flaw in the AG's report is that he compares NYRA way of hiring and monitoring mutual tellers handling of cash to the NJ casino's. He should be comparing it Monmouth Park or Churchill Downs mutual department. He further goes on to compare NYRA with Wendy's hamburgers method of cashing out cashiers. It's intersting to note that he DOES NOT compare NYRA to the policies set forth for OTB mutual labor union tellers and how they cash out and reconcile their drawers.

Yes there are SERIOUS accusations in this report that the NY Times does not go into detail or rebuttal stories by the Newsday reported Paul Moran. People in the business know that tellers bet...if is illegal in NY State, then prosecute.

The most glaring wrong was NYRA allowing the tellers to go continually SHORT and have the short deducted from the paycheck, thus evading taxes on their gross salary. THIS IS income tax fraud.

On a personal note, I can't tell you how many times recently, I've gone to the windows to cash tickets and have the teller have a balance due to me on the TIM screen that was HIGHER than what I was allowed to receive. And of course, they suddenly REALIZE this as they cash me out, paying me my correct amount and they pocket what they just screwed the patron prior to me! They lamely say something like they did not clear their screen.

Thats why I now only use vouchers and my NYCOTC telephone card.

Happy Fathers Day to All...finally stopped raining here in Long Island-Belmont. Is that the SUN?????

Say? If you believe the races have a predetermined outcome and I do not mean predetermined as in fate, but predetermined through collusion why do you want to be a public handicapper and why would you bet on a race? You know you are doomed to fail, because you are not privy to the "inside" fix (see threads about probability).

Regards.

Where are you talking about here? Belmont?? The tellers at Belmont don't have TIM screens (Tiny Tim??)

Sorry Pace...I was talking about the small screen in front of the teller machine that he/she swipes your tickets prior to paying...the dollar amount was higher than my payoff...by alot...

That is strange. My limited technical knowledge of the pari-mutuel machines NYRA uses prohibits me from commenting further on this....any current or past tellers out there care to comment on this one????

This is bs. Must be a slow news day.

SMTW....the only races that are fixed are the races Ken loses.
all the others are run correctly. Check the morning works for more info.

I am confused... Why would you post this to me?

NYRA chief Barry Schwartz was quoted as saying the NY races are clean.

Ken,

Ah, Barry Schwartz... thanks for the clarification. Makes me look a bit self-centered, huh? <G>
