Joseph De Francis said he and his sister decided to make a bid because "after having invested the better half of our adult lives in the horse industry, we're extremely troubled by the current state of the industry."

Comment: Pretty hard to keep my lunch down after that one.

Let's see, Magna paid $117m for the tracks, and given what other properties have brought they'll probably get less than $80m for them.:faint:

I don't see it happening.

Horse racing is akin to the newsprint industry. A dinosaur when compared to other sports. Football, baseball, basketball and other popular sports are not dependent on gambling for survival. Additionally, other sports control their markets top to bottom. How long do you think a sports team would survive if it didn't own or control its venue, marketing and regulatory agency?

Sadly, hose racing is on life support.

Sadly, hose racing is on life support.i agree it certainly looks that way, but that just reinforces what i post, you gotta be buyin when they are cryin. if wingtips always come back so will horseracing. how remains the question.

I am in great disagreement here, major sports thrive on gambling and thus if horse racing were marketed correctly it could thrive as well. Anyone who pays attention to sports knows gambling is right there in your face although you won't hear it mentioned. Why are western union and moneygram constantly advertised? gamblers send funds offshore via those methods. Who is watching troy middle tenn on a tuesday? people who want action and are willing to watch garbage to get it.... who is watching a game in th 4th quarter when a team is down 4 tds? the guy who has +/-29.5 ...... I could go on for HOURS with how gambling is the lifeline of all sports but won't..... The fact is if every offshore sportsbook and bookie disappeared sports viewership would shrink drastically and anyone who has gambled on sports or been to a sports bar knows it, lucky for the leagues gambling will only expland on sports not shrink
