I disconnected my old computer to install my new model - at that time everything was working properly. I then set the computer up again to delete some files before giving it away to a friend.

Now I turn the computer on and it gets to the microsoft XP screen, but that's as far as I get, it will not load Windows XP. When I turn the system off and try to reboot, I then get the message that Windows did not lauch successfully possible due to a change in hardware or software.

I've tried reboot using the last known good configration, and the safe mode, but still no joy, the computer.

Not sure if this is related or not but the dvd drive does not seem to be working. My cd player will open and extend the cd tray when I press the button, but my dvd player will not.

Any suggestions??

What files did you delete?

did you bang it around moving it? open the case and make sure everything is plugged in tight.

Boot it off an external drive with a Windows CD, check this page

We actually didn't delete anything. We were going to. I'm guessing something might have been disconnected. Thanks JR, I give that site a look.
