From his photo, he reminds me of an older version of former Senator and Secretary of Defense William Cohen.

Whew....for a minute there I thought this was about the 1978-9 UT centerfielder Joe Bruno. Quite a ballplayer.

Are there any other Albany pols going to the clink soon or was Bruno the only crook?

Joe Bruno is a Republican. He just played the unions like a Dem. I'm not a Bruno fan, but the facts did not support a conviction, imo. The jury disagreed, however, obviously.

Once again the all powerful get the special treatment. How is he walking around on own recog??

Judge denies request to turn in passport at least.

Are you aware he's to be sentenced March 31st and faces 20 years? Normally people stroll around as they await sentencing, without special treatment.

ALL NYS elected officials are crooked.
Fact of life in NY.

They should have just shot the bastard and left him rot on the sidewalk.

Democrat and Republican mean nothing in NY State other than what clubhouse you go to at the end of the day. They all work together very well to fleece as much money as they can and cover for each other. Most of the NY Senate could go up on charges and be put away for just as long. Hopefully a few more will.

Bi-partisan organized crime.
That is NYS.

An un-elected governor appointing un-elected senators. Nice.

Could you please explain in detail what laws you think Mr. Bruno broke? Again, I'm not a Bruno supporter, but this was NOT an open and shut case. And your "he should be shot" comment should be removed by Pace or one of the other moderators. But I suspect you're a moderator, which - if correct -is a travesty in and of itself. A moderator should never use such incendiary language.

That is a common political cry of outrage, like hanging someone in effigy. You got a problem with that, too?

ABC News has no problem with it......

“Roman Polanski is a criminal, Roberts said. "He raped and drugged and raped and sodomized a child. And then was a fugitive from justice. As far as I’m concerned, just take him out and shoot him.”

Basket Ball uses it, too.
(“Someone created the box score,” Morey says, “and he should be shot.”)

Bruno had plenty of help from two governors, but IMO no one is more responsible for the foundering state of New York Racing than he is. There was an extensive piece on him in the "Village Voice" during "Troopergate" that provided a lot of details that might interest you.

The prosecution presented too many dots that were too hard not to connect by the jury. Not taking the witness stand himself was typical of his arrogance and probably hurt him. I'd bet he doesn't make the same mistake on appeal.

I agree with your statement about his arrogance, amazing for a man from such a modest background (I believe he grew up in a tiny apartment in Glens Falls, NY). I followed the case fairly closely - it seemed to me that he went out of his way to disclose the relationships (e.g., encouraging unions to invest in a client's money mgt firm) to the NY State Senate. Of course he can only testify on appeal if a judge grants the appeal.
