On December 1st John Brunetti Sr. sent a letter to Gulfstream and Calder asking permission to run a mixed card, both quarter horses and thoroughbreds. The state laws do not permit that as Calder and GP run all year so there is no room for a third track. Brunetti also acknowledged several prominent trainers that would like to run at Hialeah as long as the races there are not condition races run elsewhere. The fact that Calder is under quarantine and one horse was euthanized for herpes EHV-1 there may be some room for negotiations here and it seems Brunetti once again is in the right place at the right time. Calder cancelled the Tropical Turf and My Charmer, not that Hialeah would be the beneficiary of these races but maybe something can be worked out between the three tracks to get those horses who cannot ship into Calder some races. Hopefully the state will weigh this out before they just say no.
