Just saw on the front page here and another website,that he died. Wanted to give him his due because he rode in the greatest sport of all and my favorite sport too.
He was the oldest winning Kentucky Derby jockey still alive. He won the 1936 Derby aboard Bold Venture. He also won the race as an apprentice. I'm too young but maybe others know more of him or good stories,rides,races,etc.

Ira was one of thje first trainers I worked for at Belmont...I can tell you he was a very nice man and a true gentleman.
