As a follow-up to my review last week of the NTRA polls, with special note to Golden Ballet and her low ranking among straight 3yos as compared to her relatively high ranking among all thoroughbreds, this week's update follows the strange pattern.
With no major three-year-old stakes races having been run over the Mar. 31-Apr. 1 weekend, somehow Golden Ballet managed to move up among 3yos going from #9 to #5, while holding steady at #7, between Point Given and Monarchos, among all thoroughbreds. In addition, without having raced, Fifty Stars dropped off the 3yo top 10 as did Hero's Tribute. Filling out the suddenly vacant spots were Balto Star, who rompted in the Mar. 24 Spiral, and Express Tour, who outgamed Street Cry in Dubai, also Mar. 24.
While the 3yos had their polls shaken up without having any major races run last weekend, the top 10 of the general thoroughbred poll remained unchanged, eventhough Kona Gold was all out in barely winning Apr. 1. Do note that the general "others" have changed quite a bit. Now, third ranked 3yo Dollar Bill does not even appear anywhere on the general list! But eighth ranked 3yo Outofthebox still commands a spot among "others" on the general list. The retired Chilukki and Surfside have quickly lost their support for their accomplishments thus far and have fallen off the general list completely, while others who have yet to start in 2001 have retained their backing. 3yo filly Gold Mover somehow received support to make the "others" in the general poll, but is not even mentioned anywhere among 3yos!! Go Figure!!
