Considering the fans overwhelmingly are voting for Zenyatta for HOY in every online poll from the Bloodhorse, Thoroughbred Times, and even here, you can be assured Rachel will be HOY.

The people that run horse racing, the writers that follow it, etc, have shown absolutely ZERO interest in listening to gamblers and fans, which is one of the reasons why the sport is dying.

The fans should vote like they do for the NFL Pro Bowl or MLB All Star Game, but considering the NFL is doing so bad and horse racing is growing at such a rapid rate, why would anyone listen to a sport like the NFL. :D

One of the main problems with horse racing is these old men basically do all the writing and coverage of the sport and they are living in the old days. Just look at the coverage in the Bloodhorse or on TV and it is basically Old Men, with the exception of TVG.

Mo Po... You must really feel insecure about Zen's supposed lock on HOTY.... or else you would not be whining and harping on an on about it. Take a breather go out side and have a walk.

Good idea! Then the Eclipse Awards can be the equine equivalent of the People's Choice Awards, and we know how prestigious those are.

You want fans voting for HOY? Here is a list of he winner of the ESPY for best jockey, voted on by fans. They did a good ob picking the best jockey each year:

1994 Mike E. Smith
1995 Chris McCarron
1996 Jerry D. Bailey
1997 Jerry D. Bailey
1998 Gary Stevens
1999 Kent Desormeaux
2000 Chris Antley
2001 Kent Desormeaux
2002 Victor Espinoza
2003 José Santos
2004 Stewart Elliott
2005 Jeremy Rose
2006 Edgar Prado
2007 Calvin Borel
2008 Kent Desormeaux
2009 Calvin Borel

The last time the ESPY and Eclipse Award winner won in the same year was 2006. Prior to that was 1998. When you lets fans have a vote, it becomes a popularity contest. Right now, with TVG becming the Zenyatta Channel, Zenyatta would be a cinch if fans voted. Think of it this way, if fans voted, Mine That Bird would be 3YO champ, not Summer Bird. Keep fans out of it, they will not make the right choice.

Of course they're voting for Z, the polls were put up a day after a stirring win vs males in a grade 1 race, why would they consider voting for a horse who hasn't raced in months?

High correlation to Derby winning jockey. Looks like they may have changed the timing of the voting in 2001. Antley and Kent got the Espy the year after they won the Derby. Victor and the Derby winners after 2002 got the ESPY the same year.

If you want the fans to vote for HOY, then all you have to is start your own organization, like the Eclipse people did, and pay for it, then you can have your own poll. I'll vote - lt me know when and how.

Wake up and have a cup of coffee because you are undoubtedly half asleep. The reason that Zenyatta is leading in the fans poll is because of 1 race and 1 race only which is her performance in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

If I was a casual racing fan and only saw the BC Classic I too might be following that emotional crowd down the wrong voting path.
