The 3rd and 4th paragraphs are scary! Friend of my father who works for the government said the same thing 6 months ago about them turning around in the next year or two and lobbying for the elimination the racing from the casino/racinos.

I'm sure it was the plan all along and the tracks bought into it because they are lazy and did not want to fix up their sport themselves. What does the racino even do for the race fans and racing?
They want all that new money themselves, and not put it into a dying sport a sport so bad that even it's OWN people did not even put effort into fixing it or helping the fans.

Also have to say,now I bust on Aqueduct a bit because they do such a horrible job there but I still like it because I grew up with Belmont and Aqueduct. I KNOW Aqueduct horse racing will be closed within 2-3 years years from now.
SOOOO what is Belmont going to do? They get like 4,000,5,000,maybe 6 tops unless big day,and that's during the prime Summer months! What will they bring in during the winter? Also they are going to run 11 months a year? Might be overkill and they would have to put in big money to winterize and spruce up inside that grandstand.
Racing better do something besides giving up Aqueduct. JMO

hopefully once the casinos are up and running the purses get larger and then the better horses and barns return nyra to the status they once enjoyed. One can dream can't one!

NY purses have been very good in recent years. They have good horses and barns here.
Tomorrows Aqueduct purses are all basically $46,000 purses with a $50,000 purse. That's pretty good and that's for Aqueduct!

Hopefully, in an unprecedent moment of brilliance as yet seen by any of the slot revenue recipients - NYRA will work with horsemen to earmark some of the funds to maintain current levels of purse funding and operational spending - and use the surplus to reinvest the capital into a product that has been screaming for an infusion of new ideas and new capital.

I've heard for years here locally about how nobody can afford to do the things to make the industry better. So, should slot money arrive, our purses can temporarily increase, handle can go down, slot revenue can dry up, and we can be without an industry.

If you need money to do the things to make the entire industry better, which in turn leads to improved handle, which inturn leads to improved purses... why, when you get the money, do you avoid solving the problem, instead electing to reach an easy result?

PS... my license makes me an HBPA member and even I can see skipping steps one through nine and jumping to ten doesn't fix the actual problem.

That's what I'm saying. They are not solving the problem with horse racing fans with these racinos that DO NOT want anything to do with FAILING horse racing! Their just putting a band-aid on,WHICH will tear off and expose a huge wound that they will be way to far behind to fix!
