Are there racebooks that both ALLOW laptops AND provide outlets for power plugs, i.e., actually support those of us that handle handicapping data electronically?

In my last trip to the city in March I noted a wide range of acceptance of establishments to horseplayers bringing laptops to racebooks. Some casinos forbade any computer whatsoever, others had no issue over them, but had no power outlets available.

Since I like to have my whole data base along with my laptop, I also need an AC outlet to plug in an external hard drive which can't run off the laptop power.

Any help appreciated,

ICX

I was a the SouthPoint a couple months ago for some business and decided to play a few races. I asked the race book manager, and they were very accommodating. The regular seats don't seem to have accessible power outlets, but the interactive terminal seats on the left side of the book did. They actually unlocked the top of the enclosure, lifted out a power strip that the tvs and terminials were attached to, and just draped it down onto the desk for me.

They also offered to plug in my laptop to charge behind the counters if I needed to do that on another instance.

I will disclaimer this by saying that it was the middle of the week and there were not very many patrons in the book. I don't know how it would be on the weekends, but I'm guessing if you called ahead of time, they would help you out. I don't think this is the greatest racebook in the world, but it worked for me since I was already there.

I believe it is against state law to place a wager by phone or via the Internet within Nevada. I recall when I was there recently that I was not able to place a bet through one of my ADW accounts even though I checked off my actual state of residence, which is not Nevada. The ADW recognized my location as Nevada and prevented my wagering. Of course, accessing information is quite permissable. I imagine racebooks hope that ADWs will prevent online wagering from within the state as mine did, but one of my other U.S.-based accounts took bets from me while I was there and the offshores will certainly do the same.

Au contraire, mon frere. I would be out of a job if it were illegal.

CBedo,

Did you meet the incomparable Leo at South Point ?

I had no problems wagering from Nevada via Xpressbet on GP, Keenland and SA, on the other hand, TVG would not even accept my phone calls?

I just got KICKED OUT of an IL OTB today for having a laptop in their building. They had no wi-fi. I simply had the forms and my software programs which I downloaded in the morning. Wasn't betting on-line. I was ADVISED to shut down or.......
I sent off an e-mail to the IL OTB a few minutes ago. I'll advise what they say.
It's just so frustrating. I'm 52 years old and out of the 50 or so at the OTB today there was maybe, maybe, 7 younger than me. That counts the 4 at the bar watching college football who probably except for a "go number 7" didn't even realize there was an OTB in there. They didn't give a damn about horse racing. Why should they? Wonder why? It's sad. While racing trys to promote technology, Twitter, etc, it seems to be a bunch of crap. I grew up in Louisville, KY and have loved this sport since I can remember. But, things like what happened today just, well. There's a little bit of pavement ahead of us, but I'm afraid it won't be long before we hit the sand.

Did you meet the incomparable Leo at South Point ?If I did, I didn't catch a name. Was he a patron or an employee?

He's a "superwriter" and quite the schmoozer. No one like him in town.

When South Point had an advertising deal with Ralph Siracco's radio show, Ralph called every day and solicited thoroughbred picks from "Leo the Moosh." :D .

The Superbook at the Las Vegas Hilton with its giants screens and the Palm Racebook have plug outlets at every seat.

The Hilton has a dual outlet and the Palm has a single outlet.

Trust me I play in both of these race books with my laptop and have no problems what so ever. They are very customer friendly.

Enjoy and good handicapping.:)

Imperial Palace is a lace to use the lapper
and since its pretty empty you should have
choice spots to camp out.

Ill and Laptops. I asked if I could use mine at Bloomington OTB and they said I really shouldn't. However, I use my laptop every time I go to Fairmount Race track and they never say a thing and I'm plugged in right in front of the windows. I guess they figure I'll be separated from my money more quickly that way.

Thanks guys. I'm definately going to check the suggested racebooks out. Maybe other racebooks will wise up and cater to the laptop handicappers. Just to clarify, I use the laptop for my PP and Chart files and to run scanning programs, not to place ADW bets. I'll give the racebook my business for the chair and screens.

Hello DS.

No kidding, I do live in the wonderful city of Goldfield,NV.
Working in the refurbishing of the Haunted Hotel you
may know about. Moved up here a few years ago as it was
a choice of Beatty, Goldfield, Tonopah and Ely.
Goldfield offered the cheapest move overall.

Have to go to Beatty to wager on sports as there is a
Leroys kiosk there or drive down to pahrump for races.

Have a good day.

As long as we're violating the intertopic rules, let me just say that the great Barry Newman was wasted/miscast/awful in the Terence Stamp showcase The Limey.
