Do many horseplayers also find themselves playing poker?

There are similarities in the two games and players, both which can require either a gut feeling play or a statistically minded analysis.

If you play, do you find yourself sitting at a table online in-between races?

I LOVE poker. I got into betting horses seriously when I couldn't find poker games that fit my situation in life (newly married, not too much money, games for pennies and games for multi thousands, nothing in between).

I think that racing could be successfully sold to the young poker players by someone who understood both. The sales pitch would be more effective though if HANAs primary goals were already achieved.

I also think racing could be sold to older players (like myself) who are finding that they can no longer compete at their previous levels because of age related problems - memory, stamina, etc. However, the older player may not be able to build the automation tools that he/she might need. If a system such as the one being used by CBEDO were available commercially (without the selection model) I think a large number of serious players might want to try their hand at the selection process.

John Broadus Watson, the Behaviorist said it better:

"
Give me a dozen healthy infants, well-formed, and my own specified world to bring them up in and I'll guarantee to take any one at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select – doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant-chief and, yes, even beggar-man and thief, regardless of his talents, penchants, tendencies, abilities, vocations, and race of his ancestors. [Behaviorism (1930), p. 82]'

In other words, if you write the program, I can win. And if we can only get the takeout lowered, I bet just about every miscreant out there would be raking it in playing the ponies. I love it. This should be the model for tbred racing growth.

I've been spoiled by online play. Live play is soooo tedious to play in comparison. Makes 22 min between posts seem fast.

I would take poker over racing every time, as long as it is in person poker. None this internet stuff, I want to smell the fear and watch the beads of sweat build up on the upper lip as I fondle my hole cards. I want to hear the heavy breathing, hear the chair squeak, the feet move about under the table.

And that is just me!

Don't tell me the chair is squeaking because you're fondling your hole cards?

CRC opened it's Poker room Friday the 23rd on the lst floor, 27 tables, very nice kitchen area and a service bar. Checked it out several times over the weekend, not one, I mean not one table occupied, a dealer with fanned out cards, a young lady at the service bar and the kitchen help busy doing something, but not one patron at the tables. Not to say that they did not have players after live racing, I didn't hang around to find out. On top of that they took part of the 4th floor terrace area and turned it into a Fri/
Sat. night disco, thinking being that people will leave the newly constructed Casino area, take the elevator to the 4th floor and pay $5.00 cover charge to hear a Latin band for 2 hours. There are some strange minds trying to save racing these days.

I think that I can safely that allowing poker at race tracks is going to solve racing's problems. Now allowing betting on Gin Rummy is different story!;)

Certainly...

I plan to hold a party for the Breeder's. The other half and kids are shuffling off to B-Lo for the weekend, while I entertain da Rookies' posse.

Poker starts @ 5p.m.

I send a limo for some of the invitees... ;)

Does anyone use the track WiFi to play during the day? I'm not an overly serious handicapper, so I look over the forms and visit the paddock before each race, but I know many have their research completed well before first post.
