Let's see a show of proverbial Hands............

I am not going to be playing..........the more I read what it is turning out to be

the less interested I am. I am just about down to not playing at all.

nope...won't support that surface

I'll be playing for sure. There are not that many racing days where there are lots of "dumber" people than me playing. When there are, I have to take advantage while I can!

Also, I wouldn't say business as usual. On big days where there is more "tourist" money, I'll play bigger than usual more than likely.

I will definitely be playing. I don't usually do that well at the BC but last year was my best. Bubbles and Silver Sow: Thanks again for the prizes.

Yes I will be betting (however), with a 50% reduction minimum of the amount of bets I will make. probably one or two races per day.

Oh I will most definitely be playing, already gearing up for it.

If I think I spot an opportunity I'll do what I have to do. That's not to say that as a fan of the sport, as well as a player, I'm giddy over the direction of this event, but if I think I see money I have no choice but to reach for it. So I answered Hell yeah!

i'll be betting, and will enjoy myself. i would be alot happier if the races were somewhere other than santa anita, but i love the game to much to miss it.

the huge pools, the euros and general idea of playing closely competitive fields excites me...

i'll be playing, but within usual parameters of play

also will be playing with a group on the serial wagers

but i still disdain the polycrap surface

As a fan it sucks. RA sleeping in a stall and Sea the Stars having test sex excites me about as much as a railway spike in the noggin. But for pure betting I will pump the volume for it. It is annually my number one handle day of the year and will again this year.

Bet some but a lot less than in the past. Can't get excited about a single race until pre-entries are announced next Wednesday.

This year ... yes.

Next year ... probably not ... especially if they're running on that real-dirt crap!

Best 2 days racing all year.

European horses on the turf and the mile.

Home horses all the way otherwise.

Best racing of the year in a place where they should have nice weather. They ran on "real" dirt a few years back at Monmouth. REAL WET dirt. It was horrible! Anyone that passes Grade 1 horses due to some perceived notion they cannot Polytrack is probably bettor off going to the Casinos and playing the slots.

Not only playing, I'm upping the action. Last year was the BEST BC I've had in years. Very formful racing, more so than other years, IMHO. As far as I'm concerned, they can keep the BC at SA forever. Perfect track for it!

I have been a huge fan of Breeders' Cup since its inception in 1984. However, I'm sticking to my Synthetic boycott and will not wager on any race on Pro Ride, Cushion Track, Polytrack, Tapeta, and whatever else they want to call it. I will handicap the turf events and may wager on a few of them. Absolutely no wagers on synthetic surfaces from me. Even the Breeders' Cup is not immune to my synthetic surface boycott. Please Bring Back The Dirt!

They are the biggest betting days every year, with the best value and highest payouts. Been betting on them every year since 1985 and not planning on slowing down! Two years ago, I cashed multiple Pick 3s, collected over $5k and even tho I was blanked last year, it was my capping not the surface that was the problem. I didn't do enough prep work with video replays and past performance analysis.

anyone that doesn't bet this breeders cup don't deserve to have money. these winners are so easy to find on the synthetic its like taking candy from a baby.

I will be continuing my boycott of all races from tracks that have poly.I will not even bet the turf races. It takes discipline but thats what successful wagering is all about anyway!Maybe you'd post your sure winners for the members who will be wagering on this years event?...good luck to all who will be wading into the various pools...

With the magnitude of the day and the big pools, value will surface somewhere.Chalk on this surface is a definite no go.But will make a few bets.Been betting Euros since Domedriver placed in 02 in a big exacta. They look even better this year.

For some reason I'm not overly excited about this year's BC event. Sure it will be nice to see Zenyatta but other than that, have no other strong rooting interests. My darling RA is on the sidelines, but I agree with the strategy by her connections.

I will take a two day break from my own boycott of synthetic tracks and play the Breeders Cup. And on the day after, I will continue my avoidance of synthetic tracks until they run the next BC on one (hopefully never again).

Then you're going to love to hear in The Blood Horse that BC is studying a permanent rotation of BC sites, with Arlington, Woodbine and Del Mar mentioned.

From Brisnet:

"Breeders' Cup Limited announced Thursday simulcasting and licensing agreements with Betfair Group Limited permitting common-pool wagering on the 2009 Breeders' Cup, which will be held at Santa Anita on November 6-7.

The landmark agreement marks the first time that Betfair will commingle into the Breeders' Cup pools. This will provide Betfair's worldwide customer base of more than 2.5 million with access to common-pool betting on the races."

The pools will even be bigger with this announcement.

I will be jumping in the pool with a splash!

Theoretically they could be bigger because BF customers (already) have access to them. But I think this is more about BC getting a slice of the money that customers bet on the Betfair exchange.

GM10 is right. It remains to be seen what the betfair base will kick into pools. You have to remember most people on betfair are using the exchange side of things, fixed odd betting, pool betting is still not the preferred type of betting for British and Irish punters, which probably make up the lion's share of Betfair's base. So I wouldn't expect to see a huge jump in the pool, at least not this year.
There is however a really nice market there that could be exploited, but it would require some marketing and coaxing on the benefits of the nice scores one can get on exotics, supers, pick 6s etc. So it is a step in the right direction.

I'll be playing---it's still the best two days of racing in the whole year.

how cliche
10-24-2009, 12:41 PM
I'm undecided, but it's unlikely I'll be betting into the Breeders' Cup.

I haven't felt the pre BC rush I normally do this year. Perhaps I finally got wise. I think it's a combination of the lack of star power and the two day format. I'll be working while Friday's card is run. I won't play if I can't watch. On Saturday Europe's big horse and North America's big horse are both in absentia. The Classic is still classic in distance though.

I've thought this since I began in '99. The Breeders' Cup is kind of phony. There are just two runners that provided me a genuine sense of witnessing something special in 10 years of this. Ouija Board because she's a champion & Tiznow because of the timing & proximity to the crime.

What is The Cup to these eyes? Honestly? A gambling orgy, nothing more, nothing less. Why do people like it so? When correct, they get paid more than they should. Not knocking it. Just calling it as I see it. For wagering there are other venues where I'll have an edge and my handle is likely to go there instead.

Just in case you've missed it, California is going to increase the vig on racing and it will hit the upcoming BC races.

It's like the birthday card I saw last week. On the front, there's a picture of a dog with the line "A got you a present." You open the card and it reads, "It's out in the yard."

I will focus on turf races both days. Also, if you would like counter-BC alternative on Friday here is suggestion... Delta Downs. DeD will run its prep race card (I believe 6 stakes races) that evening. I may venture there to watch races live. Quirky, fun place every year for Jackpot!

Right now is the perfect time to boycott the raising of takeouts.Nothing would speak louder than a severe and noticeable decrease in the breeders cup handle. One they cannot possibly blame on the economy. It is time for serious horseplayers to put aside our own greed and selfishness and sit this one out!

I agree.

I would add keeping your hands and money in your pocket will not kill you (a plural you). There is next year at Churchill Downs. If you can't sit this one out then cut back the size of your bets. Part of what the industry counts on is the lack of organization of the betting public. We show no discipline, no will, no organized front. They expect you'll keep coming back regardless of what happens. Now is the time to get a backbone and just say no.

If you want things to get better, something has to change. Why not start with yourself by resisting the urge just once and at the same time help show a united front?

Being very selective over the years, my hits are only on the most solid of plays aka Manila, Precisionist (85), Quija Board and a very few others. I have more photographs than old totes from my multiple visits.

I'll be in attendance and playing heavy as usual. If there is an amusement park for horseplayers it has to be 2 days of BC racing, at SA no less. I don't know how so many of you are indifferent to the 'Cup. Those 2 days last year were so profitable for me that it turned my whole year around. This year's been a little rough too so I'm playing catch-up yet again.

point given

I'll bet on the BC, even though I get my butt handed to me there every year.

Why not take half your bankroll and make a donation to a couple of charities, then sit back and enjoy the show ! You will save half your money and have good feelings as well ! I'm leaning in that direction myself, as I am less than enamored with the sport since Saratoga ended.
