i guess i oughtta get aquainted with santa anita this fall prior to breeders cup. so we'll give california a try tomorrow.
race 1
:5: comeback girl appears to be a solid choice here. she qualifies for the conditions, but her wins were last spring at a better level. i don't think she'll have to get the 6 furs in 110 and change to win here that she needed to match last out. although she's quite capable of times better than that. second off the layoff and she showed similar race before busting out for 2 straight wins in the spring. small field and i'll be lucky to get 2-1 on her. so we'll start the day off with a small win wager

4 of 6 here were backing up at the end of every race. two have been steadily moving forward every race. when given the choice like this i always like the horse moving forward. looks like a good spot for an exacta box.

i'll probably put some money on the nose of these two, but that'll be race time decision.

union soldier has everything in his pps that the public looks for. 3rd off the layoff; increasing beyers. maiden win at a level that barely meets the conditions, a top jock and trainer, but i'm going elsewhere. 2 and 3 back niger river gave it up in the stretch. the second time he met the track variant for the day, and the winner of that one won his next race. he than ran at 1 3/8 miles. a distance that the opening pace is very slow. i like him coming out of that race, and hopefully it will slow him down enough and also increase his stamina to beat this crowd. i see union soldier being right there at the end so an exotic is useless. a 3$ win bet on :5: niger river.

on the downhill turf i always tend to side with the speed. the first 2 furs are downhill, and it gives the speed 2 free furs and they've already got the jump on the others heading into the stretch. :5: via verde is from cherokee run and has shown it in his first two. i think he graduates here. i like :6: lucks mine to fill out the exacta, and we'll also throw some coin on lucks nose. looking at lucks works he was definately race into condition, and i'm treating his fairplex race as a work. so this is 3rd off the bench for him.

baffert has one in this one that class wise is the best, but theres another speedster in this race. i think :6: sister lucy and :5: belated bid (thats really a poor name for this little filly) are going to light up the track the first 5 furs and :3: youknowhatilike comes along in the last 1/2 fur and catches them.

be a race time decision. theres a good possibility that i'll wheel a trifecta in this one. may hit this race hard

appears to be a pretty evenly matched affair, and if you get it right you can make some cake. looking at :9: once upon a grace last two she'll appreciate the added ground and is plenty fast enough to get position. the other horse i like is :7: dotsy jean. she's had sometime between race, but i think she'll be prepared enough looking at her work tab. therers some euro's racing for the first time in the states, but i don't like them in a race like this where fast breakers and early speed doesn't drop off like it normally would. i've found euro's just aren't capable of breaking quick enough without racing here for a period of time to win on downhill turf. that also goes for horses normally running routes on turf.

the 4 looked impressive in his pps. ran competitively in group 1-3 stakes in england. i just didn't think north rodeo would go out to the lead. usually euro's are up against it at the 6 1/2 fur didtance because the pace doesn't come back like it usually would, but the 4 is just a talented horse. hats off to him

I felt pretty confident about these, wish I had played the super-high 5, I would have got it......I did play tri and super and made out pretty good!

Your 5 had to go wide or she would have got up for the exacta

after looking at the charts from yesterday's races horses that tend to run evenly are what you want to look for on the santa anita surface. this seems to have an advantage early in the race day. as the day went by though horse coming from off the pace seemed to have an advantage. lets see if that holds up.
