Turn out I can't do what I wanted, get the old charts, as EQUIBASE only goes back to 1991.

Our DRF columnist can go back, and often does, to 1975.....Access is however limited to accredited researchers. The DRF archive and the U. of Kentucky might be of help.

Of the 21 different horses that finished immediately 2nd and 3rd behind her, 12 were G1 winners which won a total of 28 Grade 1 races. I don't know how many other Grade 1 winners she defeated overall, but in the 1998 BC Distaff there were three more besides those 21

tzipi,do yourself a big favor and get the most recent edition of the drf book "Champions" You can find it on e-bay or Amazon.com. It has a few pages of race descriptions for each decade but the more important thing is that the full lifetime pp's for every horse to win an Eclips Award are in there. I can tell you it will take over a month to digest what horses did in the past compared to today's crops.
