I just heard the call of the race and something that the announcer said is confusing me. The announcer said "this one's wide open" at the top of the stretch.
This horse was a lock turning for home, she was totally in hand stalking a slow pace and she kicked away by many lengths under a hand ride late. The race was NOT wide open. There was a heavy favorite who looked the part sitting in an absolutely perfect position to win easily.
Maybe he meant wide open for 2nd?
I don't get the 'wide open' call. If there ever was a race that was a 1 horse race at the top of the lane, this was it.
