The Pope and Nancy Pelosi are on the same stage in front of a huge crowd.

The Pope leans towards Mrs. Pelosi and says, "Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, like that of your followers, but go deep into their hearts and they'll forever speak of this day and rejoice!"

Pelosi replied, "I seriously doubt that. With one little wave of your hand? Show me."

So the Pope slapped her.

I was on a balcony once with the Pope.
Thousands of people were yelling,
"Greyfox, who's that standing next to you."

And when that cry went up from the assembly, do you not remember what I said to you?

Really....the way he was acting you'd think they were there for him.
I mean all that waving and all...
Unfortunately, your glass of red wine spilled on that long white gown he was wearing,
and waving goodbye to the masses we decided to leave.
That had to be the loudest cheer of the day as those two men in
the funny suits who said they were Swiss Guards escorted us out.

I'll pass no further comment on this matter except to say that if you are raised Catholic it does leave an imprint on you. There is a price to pay for sticking to your tenets. Sometimes that price puts you in peril.

As I walked down the busy sidewalk, knowing I was late for a Novena to the Blessed Mother, my eye fell upon one of those unfortunate, homeless vagabonds that are found in every city these days.

Some people turned to stare. Others quickly looked away as if the sight would somehow contaminate them.

Recalling my old pastor and confessor, Father Murphy, who made an admonition to "care for the sick, feed the hungry and clothe the naked," I was moved by some powerful inner urge to reach out to this unfortunate person.

Wearing what can only be described as rags, carrying every worldly possession in two plastic bags, my heart was touched by this person's condition.

Yes, where some people saw only rags, I saw a hidden beauty.

A small voice inside my head called out, 'Reach out, reach out!'

So I did...

I won't be at Mass this week.
