This is really very sad. He was my favourite racehorse in the world ever.

"Better Talk Now, winner of the 2004 John Deere Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT), has been retired from racing due to an injury sustained in the suspensory ligament of his left hind leg."

I understand your sadness since he was your favorite, but it's not like he was put down. In fact, he only had one, maybe two races if lucky, left in him before retirement anyway according to sources. No need to be sad unless I'm missing something.

I still find it sad that he will no longer be part of racing. He represented good things in racing. I am also pleased in a way. He's a gelding, there is no breeding value at risk so it would have been tempting (to some) to try and pick up one final check.

I remember his race at the Breeders Cup last year. I watched him as he was entering the stretch. He was hopelessly far behind. But you could still see an incredible fire burning inside him. He was a proper race horse. *
