Summer Squall was always one of my favorites after he bulled his way through horses to win as a 2YO at Saratoga on a day I was there. All class.

Because it cost him several big races, no differently than distance limitations plagued Hard Spun, or inability on the grass was what MADE Cigar or inability on the dirt MADE Lure.

Because you I or anyone else dies, they are just no longer around and leave a legacy of what transpired while they were here.

I still can't see any reason to mention it...yeah, maybe it cost him some races...just like a lot of other horses...they all (well, 98% of them) have some sort of limitation on their abilities or health/soundness issues...it doesn't change the fact he was a good one, gave many folks thrills on the track and now he's gone...his legacy is on the race track in what he was able to accomplish.
That may be all I'll say about it, Zil...Summer Squall has died and all I wanted to do was give him my respect in death.
RIP 'ol hoss (simple isn't it?)

Summer Squall was the first horse that my wife (meteorologist) cheered for on a regular basis. We are both saddened by his passing.

I always loved this horse and watched out for his offspring. His dam was an excellent runner and a great producer. It's really sad to lose both El Prado and Summer Squall this week. RIP to both. At least they seemd to have led the good life up until their last days.

I was watching the triple crown races from 1990 after hearing Summer Squall had died (I loved him in the Preakness), and it just amazes me how fondly I remember those years (late eighties to mid nineties)...

Those were fond years.I remember seeing Unbridled break his maiden[1st starter] at Arlington.Late summer of both Unbridled's and Summer Squall's 3 yr. old year, both stabled at Arlington. The track wrote a race for each of them[preps for stake engagements elsewhere],of course, they both romped.I can remember giving Summer Squall one of the biggest figures I had ever given [equal/superior to Taylor's Special And Beau Genius, and not seen again until Black Tie Affair].

That last sentence is oddly out of place in that paragraph. I wonder why the bleeding needed to be mentioned there. Accomplishments are usually separated from the negative aspects of a career.

You seem to be missing the point, Zil...you are to be trying to be a 'know it all', but no one denies that Summer Squal (and 100's of others) was a bleeder...no one disputes that fact...
the point here is that this wonderful Champion has passed away and there is NO reason to mention bleeding...and IMHO, no one here gives a shit about his bleeding problem...
this thread was simply to acknowledge the death of one of our Champions..so please:faint: , get off your soap box!!
