Reach One More trainer Dave Anderson has been suspended, pending a hearing on Tuesday..

Oxymorphone is a Class 1 violation, which is for the heaviest infractions in racing’s five-class rating system. The national guidelines call for loss of purse, a fine, and suspending the trainer for one year or more, unless there are mitigating circumstances.

When did we get national guidelines? I thought every state had their own rules. Did the NTRA or some other source ever come out and say that a trainer should get a one year suspension for a Class 1 violation? I might have missed it.

So, is Texas following any national guidleines in handling the current Asmussen fiasco?

They are referring to the ARCI Model Rules, and the section that they are referring to can be found on Page 7 of this link (http://www.rmtcnet.com/resources/Chapter_11_Model_Rules_1-09.PDF). I know that Iowa and Texas both actively participate in the model rules meetings, too, and especially the Racing Commissioner from Texas.

I'm surprised the article made no mention about the winner Reach One More's career. Leading up to that race the horse was a winner of 6 of 7 races. Horse had won 6 Nebraska state bred stakes. Three of them were at LNN, two at FON and one at HPO. The only time the horse lost was when he was coming off a 9 month layoff, (2nd time out at Fon) where he finished 7th in a 1/2 mile race. It was also the longest odds that he ever went off at (10-1) in his career. I guess the trainer figured in order to win this 60k at PRM he had to come out with the heavy artillery.
