Overweight kids forced to go to fat camps:

http://www.liberty-page.com/issues/healthcare/uksecret2.html

While its true that many health care related costs are related to obesity, there's also a large percentage of costs that go for the elderly......what's next? Get rid of everyone over 70?

"Primary school pupils identified as being overweight will automatically be offered a place on a state-funded diet and exercise scheme.

Although parents will have the right to refuse to send their children to the classes, ministers hope the majority will attend. "

"From this month, pupils whose weight is too high – or too low – will automatically be offered a referral to "weight management services" in areas which already run such programmes or can set them up quickly.

Existing NHS schemes range from 12-week weight loss courses taking place at weekends and on school nights, to six-week residential courses costing £3,000 a patient for the most obese. "

Must have missed the bit where they did not say "forced".

Must have missed the "secret" bit when these schemes are already up and running since 1999 and run by the National Health Service, not Government. :bang:

That by helping kids early not only gives them a better life but saves NHS later life high costs for diabetes, arthritis and heart surgery treatments etc is not even appreciated by the dumbos writing this garbage.

The only thing worse than not ever reading the text but knee-jerking the bogus headline and spreading lies crediting some reprint of a bogus fairy story is being daft enough to think that anyone on PA cares about fat kids in UK.

a system that tries to encourage overweight kids to get some help before they develop diabetes and heart problems? What a terrible, terrible idea.

Tom

Yes, actually, it is.
That is not the role of government.
What's next- forced ingesting of broccoli?
Mild police?

Health is not the issue here - government knowing it's role and shutting it's hole is what is important.

I'm surprised you have written that Government Bill of Rights, yet. Evidently, you believe that people don't have a right to eat what they darn well please? Then this must be a right to dictate to people what they can and cannot eat -- what they can and cannot drink? Are there any rights you would leave for the people? If so, what would they be in your version of utopia?

Other than everything you said having no relevance to the British Health Program in question -- this is a great post.

There is nothing MANDATORY about any of it. They OFFER a health program to UNHEALTHY children, whose PARENTS opt to have the children screened.

I would like the government to mandate a reading comprehension course for you.

For someone who is so convinced the British are so superior to us, you seem awfully obsessed with our politics and racing. We'll take our capitalism and real dirt racing over your socialism and Polytrack any day of the week.

PA site is not the exclusive preserve of Americans, nor Americana.
Your thread post concerned UK politics or had your tiny mind forgotten that already. I can't help being superior, because I was born that way. I'm sure if you worked at it, you could improve your inferiority complex. Try reading.

Brilliant response.

People like you make me embarrassed that I have English ancestors. At least my ancestors were smart enough to get the hell out of there. BTW, shouldn't you be watching one of your paceless crawlfests that defines British racing?

Before the Brits take on fat kids they should consider doing something to improve the practice[or apparent lack of] of dentistry. You almost never see a Brit with a good set of teeth.Does dentistry NOT fall under their healthcare system?

Yeah...I bet you're a real legend in your own mind, too.

P.S. If there's a couple of more like you over there, you could start a U.K. chapter of the Nazi movement. The Nazis all thought they were superior to everyone else, too.

I'll take most British turf races over most U.S. dirt races any day.

And it is worth mentioning that the British actually have horseracing on it's national radar screen. It's actually important to lots and lots of people over there.

As for the socialism comment, does having a national health service mean a country is socialist? Nope. If you are a successful capitalist in Britain you get the big house and the big car just like here. In fact, it might even land you a second house on the Mediterranean in Spain. (Think Florida if it helps, Valuist! :p ) Hell, you can buy private health insurance to supplement NHS if you want over there.

Ordinarily, I would say it's safe the say that both countries can learn a lot from each other. But that seems taboo to many here.

"Offered a place" is quite different from "Overweight kids will be forced to attend fat camps"

Question: Is valuist unaware of this difference, or is he ignoring it to serve his agenda?

"They" think the National Health Service and government are the same; just as "They" think the public school system and government are the same in the US of A. "They" are not good with subtlety.

...just as "They" think the public school system and government are the same in the US of A. "They" are not good with subtlety.

For all practical intent and purposes, they are one. Try being a maverick with any program or refusing some government initiative or policy within the schools and see how quickly the school board will receive a letter from the government reminding them on which side of the bread their butter is to be found. And they ain't so subtle about it either.

"They" are not good with subtlety.
Aren't you the guy who stuck up for ACORN workers going along with prostitution, tax cheating, smuggling in children for prostitution, illegal campaign contributions, money laundering, etc as being "just trying to help outsiders work with the system"?

Seems to me that you have no right to be critical of folks not being good with subtlty when you are so blind to facts and reality.
