don't do it...

winter is coming, so i thought i'd sell some things on ebay...i saw their ad for $6.95 free computer disk to learn ebay..what the hell, right?

when i called i was given canned scripts to buy all kinds of crap..and offered free this/that to review..i finally told the clerk(if you can call them that) in no uncertain terms...to send me only the one disk...or nothing..

what a suprise, when i opened the package i found disks everywhere...only $178.90 to keep them all...when i called up to bitch, i was given a code to send them back...i have to pay shipping back for crap i never ordered...i told them to take all billing off my credit card..
what really got me is the lack of business sense these clerks had..like talking to a room of kids waiting for the judge to rule..
warn everyone you know...my opinion..these people are scum..i could imagine how old people are taken by them..this old dog knows how to hunt...i'm not thru with them by a longshot..

That's funny because a few years ago I ordered the same free disc . The idiot on the phone also tried to sell me a whole bunch of crap and everytime I said I only wanted the free disc she'd say okay , but then when she'd confirm the order , it would be for the additional stuff . She tried awfully hard to trip me up any way she could . Finally she got it right and I did indeed receive only the free disc . I would never recommend these con artist to anyone , and everytime I see the " professor " spewing his scheme on the tube I look away .

Call them back and tell them that since you specifically told them NOT to sent them, you will not pay for them and will not return them, as this is the law. Call your CC company and complain - they should back you. You do have to take this crap from a sleeze bag outfit. Also, complain to your State Attorney General - they will email you the forms.

My rule of thumb...any time you want anything on TV, order from ebay. Usually cheaper and no credit card hassles.

Do a search for "Video professor Ben Brady" and you will find a nightmare story of a guy who ordered the first one and cancelled. Like two years later he was still trying to get the professor to stop sending and billing and his credit card company DID NOT stand behind him.

Brady created websites to attack the prof.

Now, I know this Ben Brady personally - and he is a bit of a nut job - but his beef with them was real - at least based upon what he told me.

IMHO, they are to be avoided.

The professor's tag line is, "What do you have to lose? Buy my product.". Sounds like there is plenty to lose.

The only reason I ever stopped channel surfing and watched him for a few minutes is because he has a beautiful brunette co-host, which I imagine is why she is on there.

Is it possible to make a good living on ebay without selling all your own things?

Using Ebay to buy or sell stuff is easy. Anybody can learn to do it in just a few minutes.

What I can't figure out is how to get the products that some of the power sellers are selling. I have gone to distributors & manufacturers and none can beat the prices that things are selling for on Ebay.

I've got a friend that did it for several years by simply going to yard sales and auctions every week and picking stuff up for next to nothing. She did pretty well, just got tired of the constant shopping for stuff to sell. Obviously, you have to know what will sell and what the right price is when you're shopping for it. The other key is make sure to cover shipping and packaging costs. Also, be prepared to take the 8% or so hit that ebay charges for each item listed.

I know of one guy who attemted to sell home theater systems on ebay. Somebody always bid and won the systems, but nobody ever paid for them.

i can help with that...
i'm an ex distributor who always bought closeouts to keep up my bottom line..
each year, in las vegas, feb i believe, there is a surplus dealers trade show...its like going to walmart and buying items at 10 cents on the dollar..all you need to get in is a business card..it used to be at the hilton and spread to other casinos..its huge, over 5,000 dealers..
7 years ago i lived in paulden, az. and starting selling on ebay in the winter..i'd go to the show and pick up harry potter toys, star trek toys, superhero toys by the cases and sell them at absurd prices thru ebay..for example, there was this star trek toy that was the enterprise being pulled into a borg cube..it flashed lights and had sound messages...i paid $2.50 for it wholesale, listed it @$5 and never sold one under $20...but only buy what you know...know your field and you can't buy stuff nobody wants..
since i hadn't done this for a while iwas looking for a quick way to relearn..video professor was not the answer..
here's the link for trade shows.. www.asd (http://www.%3Cb%3Easd)amd.com/
don't know why the link doesn't work...just do a search for asd trade shows..

Is it possible to make a good living on eBay without selling all your own things?

My wife, Beth, ran an eBay business as her full-time "job" for 4 years. Her strategy was to sell client's stuff and take a percentage of the proceeds.

She made a small living at it, eventually quitting when a couple of companies began franchising exactly what she did. That killed the market. BTW, those companies quickly discovered that if an item wasn't expected to sell for about $100 minimum, it wasn't worth selling.

Beth's specialty was estate collections. For example, she once sold a collection of lunch boxes - about 500 of them. Did you know that someone will pay $300-$500 for certain collectible lunch boxes?

She sold collections of Hallmark ornaments, collectible bears (whose name escapes me now), laser-disks, Hummels, and Texaco toys. Remember that these items were sold one at a time so she sometimes had hundreds of auctions going at one time.

That last one was really interesting. You could do a search, but here is a link:
http://www.texatoysplus.com/

Most of these collections were large enough to fill our double-garage, forcing us to park outside.

Another time she sold a collection of pocket watches. Oh, and antique pool table equipment was another one. No pool tables but cue racks and tables from the end of the 19th century.

As for selling new merchandise, she found it virtually impossible to locate saleable inventory at reasonable prices and reasonable quantities. The big issue was "reasonable quantities."

We went to many an eBay convention. They are basically a con - set up to sell eBay entrepreneurs stuff that they will never be able to resell profitably. I mean, we really did our research.

After lots of research, we concluded that there were three ways to find product:

1. Own an existing brick-and-mortar business and sell those products.
2. Find a connection in Asia and purchase large quantities of something.
3. Use an import agent to purchase unclaimed products "off the boat" at a major port.
