View Full Version : My last words ever about TVG

Not only did they post the results of the finale at Saratoga without ever showing the race when they had plenty of opportunity, they even put it on the shelf to Ruidoso.
For a station that is dedicated solely to horse racing, they are so completely unprofessional and most times downright moronic with Paul Leduca towering over any handicapper they can throw at us, I have to find out, who's running this station?????????????
Public access could do a better job.

Saratogas 11th was shown 2-3 minutes ago. Showing the results without showing the race is weak

Cee's probably goes too far with his TVG rants , but the same can be said about a host of other topics on this forum . Rachel Alexandra being one , not to mention several in off-topic . Why should TVG threads be any different ? Do what I do Al , if you see a thread that irritates you , don't open it . I do it all the time . :)

Personally, I couldn't care less about quarterhorses, and would've preferred to be watching Saratoga, but the race from Ruidoso they covered instead was a $600k Grade I... so it's not as if their prioritization doesn't make sense.

Comcast in Baltimore has TVG on 718 and HRTV on 717; what regional Comcast do you have. BTW, HRTV is no great shakes either.
They could have come right back with the Toga race instead inane blather.
But come November, all will be well - we will not to tolerate the shame that is TVG. But TVG serves a purpose - where else would blithering idiots get jobs?

I just went to the charts to review the handle for the two races.
Ruidoso Total: $250,457
Saratoga Total: $2,204,192
What difference does it make what the purse is?? It's where does the most interest lie??
Still think they make sense?? Ridiculous!!
I was alive for serious money in the last at Saratoga and I'm happy to win. But I'm entitled to see the race before the results. I wouldn't even mind so much if they didn't pop up the results before showing the race on delay.
I called and spoke to them about it several times and they said and I quote: "People prefer it this way". Not only do they suck, but they're liars too.

To answer your question, the majority of my posts are my selections and I think my complaints about this station are valid.
The bettor should be the ones that everybody caters to and aside from a couple of off shore sites, it's just not the case and it's our fault really.
I've been around since the mid 70's and playing seriously since 1981 and I've watched Saturday's at Belmont go from crowded and exciting to what basically now boils down to a racing factory.
They run em off every 25 minutes and in a place where you used to have to save a seat on Saturday's, now you can count, usually with two hands, the attendance. Aside from of course, the apron and backyard.
I love the game. I always will. It's the people that diminish it and it's not the bettors. It's people like Stuart Janney and Shug McGuaghey that ban mud calks and still can't win at a percentage of double digits.
It's the morons that create things like polytrack. And not just one kind, but all different kinds that makes it impossible to compare to anything.
Remember artificial turf in football?? Polytrack is racing's
answer to that. And determining horse of the year from breeders cup races raced on fake surfaces is ridiculous.
Okay, I'm rambling and will stop with a final word of, everything that happens in racing is up to us because if we disagree, we only have to stop putting the money in the windows.
I Haven't bet a race at Santa Anita since pro-ride and Oak Tree used to be my favorite meet.

Ben, it's obvious from posts like the one above and from what you post in the selections area that you've spent a lot of time around and feel a sense of deep enjoyment for this game. Please keep calling it the way you see it and reflecting that in your posts.
FWIW I gave up watching TVG a long time ago. I used to get worked up to the point that I'd literally throw things every time I'd be watching horses on TVG going to the gate for a race I'd bet at a major track only to have TVG cut away to commercial or worse to show talking heads. I came to the conclusion - rightly or wrongly - that TVG's producers must not bet.
As a bettor I can honestly say that almost every bettor on the planet watches race video because he or she wants to see ONE THING and one thing only: live racing.
Translation? Live post parades and live races. Everything else takes a back seat to that. And I do mean everything.
If the producers at TVG were bettors they would understand this and NEVER cut away from a race at a major track to show a commercial or talking heads.
After losing it one too many times years ago I gave up and stopped watching TVG. Whatever their target market was, it wasn't me and it wasn't others like me.
There are plenty of other better options than TVG out there for live track video.

Matt kept on and on about how hard the pick 4 and pick 6 was after the fact (well, he might have mentioned it before the fact also) which leads me to ask THIS question.
Why were the TVG experts giving out recommended pick 6 plays into an 'impossible' pick 6 sequence with 0 carryover heading into the bet?
I feel that one of their experts (Matt) should make an executive decision that this pick 6 is too hard and not worth playing into a non carryover day.

....and it doesn't include satisfying the serious player.
Their objective with Ruidoso was to drive handle over the two days of the All-American events. I'm sure they were contractually obligated to show the race from Ruidoso over the Saratoga event.
History has proven that horseplayers can be stepped on and kicked around over and over again, and they get up, brush themselves off and then run to the closest parimutuel window.
TVG wants to attract the neophyte horseplayers. Rarely will the serious player receive even a modicum of the respect due their experience in the sport. That is not their objective. They know that they could show cartoons all day, and the serious horseplayers will get their action down.
What I can't fathom is how anyone can use the TVG wagering platform with the other options that are available to them?

And I think the handle is exactly what gauges importance and interest. If you disagree, you are certainly entitled but even if I wasn't betting, I'd rather see a turf maiden race in NY than any quarterhorse race anywhere.
To compare racing handle with McDonalds. It got a chuckle out of me and a nice try at an analogy, it's just off base.
Better to compare the money earned by a Britney Spears or a Janet Jackson as compared to the talent of a Carol King or Janice Joplin.
Since the Stones are the greatest and richest, can't use them though I wanted too.
Everyone cool down. No matter what our opinions are, none of this is that important in the grand scheme of things.

Jack, what I'm trying to understand is that everyone is always saying horse racing is dying......and it will, without new blood.
How does someone *become* a serious horseplayer? People have to start somewhere, and it's precisely the attitude that keeps newbies out of the sport maybe?
I know I felt intimidated, being both a newbie and a woman, when I started, and I really credit many of the people on this forum, and others, who *helped* me.
TVG is not for me, and I'm not defending it, but getting newbies into the sport is precisely what this sport NEEDS if it's going to have any longevity.

On another note...whats so wrong about a delayed view of a race you just wagered upon....those of you who rant about things like that have extremely low attention spans...100 years from now no one will know the difference anyway.
I still think most of you with fast internet connections would be happier with a feed from an ADW like Twinspires who, providing you meet pretty low wagering levels, can give you exactly the same thing you all seem so willing to pay big money for each month....for something that is already available, free....gheesh.....I say gheesh alot...senortout

Here's one thing i don't like that TVG does. I could even see them giving out plays and structured tickets, but some of their hosts are not 'serious handicapper' types. Christina, for example. It seems that she's more of a paddock interviewer and journalist than a serious handicapper. She's hired for her camera work and her interview skills and now she's releasing pick 4 plays from a NY track.
Its like if you get hired for a TVG gig you automatically become someone who's 'qualified' to release wagers and recommend bets.
But, in the big scheme of things, this is just for entertainment purposes only and it shouldn't be taken seriously i guess.
Its like TVG says to Christina "you've interviewed Doug O'Neill in California and asked how's his horse training, so that means you are now qualified to start releasing pick 4's from Belmont"

I would say that having been hired by a racing network it would seem to me they should be qualified in constructing tickets . If not , they shouldn't be there .once in awhile they come up with great interviews. today the new aquisition was DONNA BARTON, she interviewed a trainer and the guy came on and explained why his horse ran bad the last time in kentucky, the horse threw a shoe. i think the horse got 3rd with big odds today.
she is right intact with the people in kentucky, and is a giant addition to TVG. FRANK MIRRARMARDEE is great too! everyone got used to these guys reading picks from a piece of paper. i think TVG is weeding away from that stuff and is providing information to help you make your choice. lets face it, we all are sitting with something like numbers or racing forms. people have been going broke with that route for many years now. information that many do not know about does help.
