I just heard a local news cast with Warner Wolf interviewing
Jose Santos. Wolf didn't ask Santos, But Jose told Wolf,
In my 27 years of Race Riding, Funny Cide IS THE BEST HORSE
I EVER RODE. I dont usually believe Jocks, But, I think I may
have to with this Gelding.. He also said, He knew he would WIN
the Preakness, But was surprised to WIN that easy. Should be
an Exciting Belmont. Especially, with Bobby Frankel saying,
Before Funny's Preakness Victory, That Funny will NEVER
BEAT EMPIRE AGAIN !!!!

Yes, I heard about the work and think this Belmont will be some
race. I guess we all feel the same way. The better horse that
day will WIN !!! and thats how it should be. Interesting to see
who comes out of the Peter Pan, Spite The Devil another
N.Y. Bred is Entered there. If Spite the Devil runs a good one,
He may go in the Belmont. I believe Spite The devil LOST TO
FUNNY by 9 lengths or so, and in the Rematch Spite, lost
by inches. I believe, Spite the Devil added SHADES last outing,
and WON for Big Balloons. Like I said, This Belmont is
shaping up, AS SOME DANDY !!!!!!!!

WIN ... I agree this showdown & the new faces too. It's maybe the first time I think Frankel showed his cahones by saying he thinks EM is better than FC & EM is awaiting the challenge. No doubt the sheik/prince owner gave Frankel that go-ahead to be brave. Yeah this Belmont seems like a great event now. (I've already told my wife No Plans that day.)

I just want to clear the air and state the facts. Bobby Frankel
told another trainer 2 days after the derby, That EMPIRE Maker
WOULD NOT LOSE TO FUNNY CIDE EVER AGAIN ! Now it's
not a comment that Frankel would make to an reporter
Frankel was probably candid with this guy,
and Frankel didn't realize he would report it. I watch
and listen to the N.Y. O.T.B show on N.YR.A. OFF days, and
thats when he said it. I doubt very much Frankel would EVER
say that to an reporter, for obvious reasons.

Well, one way to guarantee that EM doesn't lose to Funny Cide again is to skip the Belmont! Can't lose to him if you don't run against him! He might have put his foot in his mouth this time. I'm rooting for Funny Cide all the way, hopefully he'll prove me wrong also.

It amazes me how short jockeys memories are. The most recent one is always the "best". Let's not forget, he did ride Manila, who won arguably the best BC Turf race ever (1986)when he beat UK Horse of the Century Dancing Brave, 1987 BC Turf winner Theatrical and the 86 Arlington Million winner Estrapade. And he did it after getting shut off in the stretch, dropping his whip, and then angling out.
