Ray,

Field size at the M stunk this year, so one could figure to have lower prices? One of the best places to make a good bet, became one of the worst with Chester and YR stealing those deep fields.

I agree with you Dean and Ray, on that score...Plus, in all the years that I have been playing the Big-M (I was there on opening nite), this year, is the "stinkiest" year for the "quality" of the horses....I mean there were a lot of junk races this year, compared to other years....And, so many of them, at that....

I love the "Big" name races, and there is no other place on the planet that can top the Big-M for top quality horses in the "Big" named races....But the rest of the season was just "filler", imo....junk ....

I played vey little there this year....

best,

Another way to look at this is that in the warmer months the racing is better and more formful.

The point made about the Meadowlands is a good one. There was a big change in the cards because of big money Racino tracks in NYC and Philly.

Another good point I was going to mention but forgot. Also the Canadian tracks are not complete, I only have info for the days I was interested in making a bet:)

I have to agree with the above. With the slots pumping in tons of cash for purses at Pokie, YR, Chester and others, the amount of horse flesh and the quality overall has not been as competitive as in past years.

Look for another drop with their not racing in Nov-Dec. That usually produces some nice payouts as the fall turns into winter. Now, they will start in the dead of winter. Do not see the quality nor the quanity to increase. With less days to race this fall-winter, stables who moved elsewhere might be happy to stay there until the stake season comes into play.

NJ has to do something drastic, like permitting the tracks to become racinos and quit protecting Mr Trump and his friends in Atlantic City. Open it up and put both Monmouth and The Big M for sale or auction them off with a reserve of 500 million each. The state will be out of the racing biz but will a billion or more richer and Donald Trump might have to buy one of the tracks to keep his power.
