It seems like the Cuban health care system has many advantages to it. Least of which is the conservation of natural resources.

Details here. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090807/lf_nm_life/us_cuba_crisis_toiletpaper_1)

Oh man! Now the people are really going to stop 'giving a $hit' in order to get by.

That hurricane did $30 Billion in damage? I didn't think that whole island was worth $30 Billion the way the Castros & company had run it down.

I do feel sad for the People Of Cuba, please don't get me wrong. However, if their system really worked, then they could have succeeded without trading with the U.S. and many other countries. Obviously, Cuba hasn't succeeded in anything expect keeping the Castro Brothers in power, and not completely starving the general population.

Some dear friends of mine just got back from a "mission" trip to Cuba. They spoke of the medical care.

Very interesting. It seems one of their acquaintances (a Cuban local) needed some stitches. When they went to the hospital, the emergency room had only a single needle to stitch with and it was broken. There are two kinds of sutures(?) that they use to stitch with; the external one that has to be removed and the internal kind that disolves. They did not have the internal one.

After the unpleasant hospital visit, it was explained to them that the "upper class" gets different care. "Tourists" fall into the upper class group automatically. Thus, any time a foreigner visits a hospital they find everything (including doctors) in good supply.

Everyone else suffers through medical care that is on a 3rd-world standard. Michael Moore lied.

It's hard to imagine someone smuggling themselves into Cuba in order to obtain good health care. Maybe it's happened, I don't know for sure; if it has, it would be interesting to read that one person's review of how it went.
