There's a ton of good stuff on Twitter for horseracing fans these days.
Jockeys, trainers, track announcers, racetracks, breeders, owners, horseracing publications of all kinds...they're all on Twitter, tweeting away.
I thought I would share some of my favorites. Please add to the list if you know any good ones we should follow!

I think there are some really good potential uses of Twitter for horseracing, but I think a good number of stuff right now is not very helpful.

The best kind of twitter feeds are ones that give out potential contenders in upcoming races. After all most of us are here because we play the races.

NYRA has done that with Andy Serling.

http://twitter.com/andyserling

Other tracks should follow suit and use Andy as a model. He does not tweet every race but when he has something important to say he will. He has also given out many winners to include a $50+ winner and a $22 winner Sunday. If a favorite is bad he will tell you.

Just follow him or go read his tweets and you will see it is a perfect model for any track provided they have a handicapper that can back up what he posts.

Was burning down cyberspace when #saratoga started, kind of in a paranoid time now where i won't be giving out the plays I worked hard for, but drop tweets when procrastinating between watching races and still can't help babble about some price horses... learn how eccentric/boring/great/horrible I am... May or may not be interesting to horseplayers. feel free to contact me via twitter if you have a great idea or a challenging question or just want to talk horseplaying or handicapping.

Twitter is 40% ‘Pointless Babble’: Report
Published: Monday, 17 Aug 2009 | 10:27 AM ET

By: CNBC.com

Twitter followers are more likely to hear about what people are having for their lunch than read anything actually interesting or worthwhile, according to Pear Analytics.

Less than one in ten tweets have any real "pass-along value" and more than 40 percent of tweets are “pointless babble,” a study by the research firm showed.

The research carried out by Pear Analytics was designed to take a snapshot of what people actually used the booming social networking site for.

They delved into the endless steam of tweets every 30 minutes between 11 am and 5 pm Central Standard time on weekdays over two weeks to collect a total of 2,000 messages.

They then grouped the messages into one of six categories: news, spam, self-promotion, pointless babble, conversational and those with pass-along value.

Messages classed as babble included such gems as “I’m having a sandwich,” Pear Analytics said.

Only 8.7 percent of messages were found to have pass-along value. Pointless babble was the largest category with 40.5 percent. Conversational tweets were 37.5 percent, but self promotion and spam only grabbed 5.9 percent and 3.8 percent respectively.

Exactly, but that still leaves 1 out of every 11ish tweets that have value--not useless.

The beauty of it is that you can choose who or what to follow according to your interests. That cuts down on the blather. When someone puts out something useful, Twitter is a great way to recieve it. I find it a great way to deliver physicality to the player and think that all tracks should do it.

Everyone wonders about physical condition today, and Twitter is a vehicle for reporting up to the minute. A person could be at the track, in line at the window, and getting an update on their phone.

I would imagine the same technology could be used to make a bet with the cell-phone. Gee, then off-track people could bet directly with the tracks, that could lower costs/takeouts. What would anyone need an ADW Co. for?

Damn, this is terrible.... horse racing could use the whole thing to compete with other forms of gaming if you could get information and bet a horse from anywhere. People still have to put their hand on a lever to play a slot machine at the casino. If any of this were pursued, handle would increase and they would have to lower takeout.... Forget I mentioned it.

Assuming that it's worthwhile to wade through the 90% of drivel to get to the good stuff.

IMO, most social networking is done by people who have an issue with self-worth. So, they get on the internet and yell, "Look at me! Look at me!! My life has value, dammit!!!"

this reminds me of the 80/20 rule or pareto principle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle) that has been popular for a while in academic circles.
that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes
80% of the wealth by 20% of the people
80% of production in 20% of the work time etc...

although these types of things tend to be over-applied to everything once they become a fun buzz-word

oh here, they have a "10/90gap" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10/90_gap) unfortunately it is health expenditure vs. total poor at need... not nearly as fun

I find no bigger jinx than a Horse Racing commentator liking my horse. Last week, I bet a Linda Rice horse, shortly after, Serling gave his rundown of the race and said the horse didn't want to go the distance. Not surprisingly, the horse wired the field.

It's nothing personal. Mike Sardella, the announcer at Saratoga Harness, is a great guy, but, when he is about give his selections, I find myself saying, "Please, don't like my exacta!!"

And it's not just horse racing. Jim Cramer recently touted a stock I own. I've had my hand on the trigger, ever since.

easy to get paranoid that the price will drop when a pro picks your horse publicly. Other than that, not to superstitious. The other day I saw a black cat on the way to the OTB and was thinking about it for a while. All i hit all day was an exacta, but came out ahead.

Yeah so sad what happened to Spook in the Matriarch stakes. Great horse! Skiffington was the first I worked for. Got to ride and walk with him all around Belmont park my first day. Nice guy. Was in the trainers box stand on clubhouse turn with Badgett and McGaughey while Toms and their horses worked out early morning. Was great to hear them talk about upcoming stakes and their horses, etc. What a great day!

Skiffington had a stable at Arlington the 1st year after they rebuilt.I remember mostly grass horses and a good win% off layoffs.Wasn't his backround in steeplechase or show horses? His stock always came to the paddock looking so well groomed, with shiny, dappled coats.

Realistically, how many tracks are going to attract a superior handicapper like Serling? He is very, very sharp.

MY pal at the the local OTB is a Serling devotee. He listens to him every day. He won a "handicapping contest" at my local NY OTB a few weeks ago.(Pick winner in 9 NYRA races) by using Serling's numerical selections.(I print them out for him)
He listened to Serling on pre-race program and filled in the contest sheet.

And won...or rather Serling won with 6/9 winners. Payoff didn't count unless ties. I got a big hoot when the OTB posted a sign announcing "John X Top handicapper at XYZ OTB! Good for a $150.00.

These tip tweets are pretty impressive... I know as of last week I believe the program had a positive ROI at TP, AP and a few others... Tuesday night it had a horse in MNRs 9th that paid $23 to show... give it a go... its FREE as of now...

All Tip Tweets are 8:1 or higher.
Check it out now by clicking typing this address into your browser: http://www.twitter.com/oneclickpony

Here is how it works. Each day the Tip Tweets program scans e-ponies.com computer picks and looks for high value betting propositions. Then Tip Tweets sends out a Tweet every time a good value is located. Here are some of the criteria that Tip Tweets is looking for:

Top overall e-ponies pick at 8:1 or higher
Top e-ponies speed score at 12:1 or higher
Second best e-ponies score at 15:1 or higher
Top e-ponies class score at 12:1 or higher
Top e-ponies form score at 12:1 or higher

For now, Tip Tweets is watching New York, Kentucky, Chicago and Southern California racing circuits. Tip Tweets get tweeted twice a day, at 11am EST and 11am PST

I used to get them sent to my phone but there are usually 30 or more of them I had to take it off. Now I just check on his twitter site can copy and paste them if I feel like it.
