Hi,

When 2 horses share an entry and they both finish, which finish determines how the entry is paid off? Must be the faster horse I am guessing.

thanks,
P

As in any horse race the horse that finishes ahead will get the bigger percentage of the purse. Unless they both finish out of the money and then they will receive 1% of the purse which in NJ is 5th thru last(tracks all over the country differ on payouts of the purses from 5th thru last). Example :1: and :1a: are coupled(entry) the purse is $42000 nw1x the :1a: wins the race he will receive 60% of the purse or $25,200.00, the :1: finishes 3rd, he will receive 10% of the purse or $4200.00.

pari-mutually speaking the entries are paid off as they finish. If both halves finish 1st and 3rd , bettors collect w/pl/sh on both horses the 2nd place horse gets pl payoff. So the entry would be splitting 2/3rds of the show pool.

The :7: placed 2nd so he pays for place and show. Hope this helps.

Careful here, some newbie may take this literally and embarass himself at the cashier after the race. Bettors collect once on this bet.
