#5, Lucy N Thunder, based at Saratoga and working regularly since June 11th there, was apparently vanned to Aqueduct and had two workouts there for trainer Gary Contessa., July 23rd and August 2nd....Does that seem more than a little strange to any of you and what could you add to the discussion?

It surely seems wasteful....

Would this add or detract from your assessment of Lucy's chances today?

p.s. they are both bullet works.....hmmmm......

I just recently learned the same thing about odd things. You have to check the scratch sheets that come with things like BRIS's free instant programs.

She was scratched out of a 7/18 mcl at Belmont then scratched out of a 8/5 mcl at Delaware. For whatever reason Contessa missed both of those races so he brought her back to Saratoga after trying to get other starts downstate. Doesn't look like he was really going to Delaware as he worked her 3days earlier at Belmont. Anyway since he missed the race he wanted he just gave her a workout instead.

Lucy ran a nice, closing 3rd and may have gotten there in a 6 furlong event.

FYI... NYRA provides free vanning of the horses between their tracks as well.

Contessa has plenty of horses (usually his 2 year olds and his excess runners) stabled at Saratoga when racing is based at Aqueduct and Belmont. But when racing is switched to Saratoga, the excess is shipped down to Aqueduct while his main stable of runners is shipped up to the Spa.

Vanning horses has a lot to do with where the main farm is located, how many stalls are available, if a horse needs freshening between races, personal choices the reasons go on and on.
