This is even a Matt Carothers angle on TVG that you always bet a horse who was vanned off or lost the rider and shows --------------- in the past performance lines. Yesterday, Dave's Revenge was showing a 'pulled up' line in her last start, yet she was bet down to 8-5 and crushed her field. Just the other day, in the 2nd race at DMR, there was a horse Classy Attraction who i also believe was coming off a vanned off type race and she went wire to wire like a champion and paid 30 bucks.

You would imagine that if a horse can't finish a race for whatever reason, that horse would 'need one' next time out...........they aren't supposed to win in their next start.

How do you approach the 'van off' types, they seem to win more than their fair share of starts.

This isn't Matt's full angle. He doesn't blindly bet any horse that got vanned off. He bets those that have been vanned off when it appears there was no serious injury and that fit the day's conditions well and that have returned to the races quickly. This is because very often players avoid such horses thinking they are washed up and thus a higher price can be had if they come in.

As to your statement that they seem to win more than their share, 2 examples aren't good enough. I would need to see a real study on this. Further, the only time you should play these is when you can get a price on them. 8/5 isn't going to be good enough the vast majority of the time.
