Can anyone that lives in Delaware or New Jersey comment on how realistic this is?

Good stuff Mike. I have a thread in general racing on whether or not it can save Horse Racing if they let people bet On Track or Satellite only and not online or in Casinos!

It is a real longshot in NJ but Delaware is odds on, Mike H.

The crux of the problem for NJ is that NJ must prove a federal law in place since 1992 is unconstitutional. From NJ.com:

The push to extend gambling to sporting events isn't new -- proponents have spoken of it on and off for more than a decade -- but both Lesniak and a spokeswoman for the American Gaming Association, an industry group in Washington, D.C., said they were unaware of anyone before challenging the federal ban in court.

The measure, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, went into effect in 1992. At the time, four states already had laws on their books allowing sports betting. Those states -- Nevada, Oregon, Montana and Delaware -- were exempted, though betting is conducted only in Nevada.

In a nod to New Jersey's casino industry, federal officials gave the state a last-chance opportunity to legalize sports betting in 1993. State lawmakers declined.

I can assure you that Sports Betting will NEVER happen legally in New Jersey! If it had a snowballs chance it would be pushed to ONLY be allowed in the casinos.

The chances of it happening AND being allowed at the state tracks is about the same as someone going to the track and finding a bag with a million dollars in their trunk when they come home.

Bill Bradley will forever be remembered for killing any chance of it in 1993. Raymond Lesniak is a genius to get his name in the news with something that has ZERO chance of happening.

Next I think he will promise flying carpets to save gas and magic pills to instantly lose 20 pounds whenever you want.

Do we live in a totally insane country? I am thinking more and more we do. Legislators put their foot on the throat latch of Internet Poker, they slice off the head of offshore betting and then try to smile for the camera and say they make a beanstalk to heaven grow with a single seed. Perhaps the insane part is that people believe them! :bang:

Last I heard Sarah Palin picked up a hammer and some wood and started building the bridge to nowhere too!

Delaware at least has a chance, Oregon and Montana too. NJ "only" has to get a federal ban out of the way. Righhhhhhhhhht.
