Our Senators and Congresswomen DO NOT pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. (But don't forget - THEY work for US). They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..

For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7, 800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives draw ing $275, 000.00 during the last years of their lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA..! ZILCH...

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK "!

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer). We can expect to get an average of
$1,000 per month
After retirement.

Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!

What do you want to bet that their healthcare plan will be better than the government sponsored universal plan for the rest of us.

Why do we put up with this crap???

They have already eliminated that possibility. They will remain status quo.

Maybe so; maybe not. You can find the information on pensions for congressmen in many places. The e-mail posted above is untrue in almost every detail. :bang: :bang:

You tell me if their coverage is better than most, Warren Henry. This is from the NY Times website tonight:
__________________________________________________ __

Congress’s health plan pays for routine expenses like office visits and vaccinations, for example, which is like auto insurance covering oil changes or new windshield wipers. As a result, the premiums are steep — upwards of $13,000 a year for a family (69 percent of which is paid by the government). To provide the 50 million Americans who are now uninsured with such a plan would require scary tax increases.
__________________________________________________ __

Currently, Congressmen with families pay 31% of at least $13,000 or at least $4,030 a year for health insurance according to the paragraph above. That's $336 a month ($4,030per year/12months).

I think the writer has some good ideas in this article. Here's the link:

If we are going to have gubbermint health care forced upon us, then it should be for EVERYONE. NO EXCEPTIONS. From the bum in a obx undr a bridge to the president and his family - every corp exec, every union leader, every governor, all of ocngress - every friggin American in the same plan. Same wait list, same option.

Here is a good quesiton for Prezdent Putz - if this HC bill is so improtnat, so necessary, so urgent, so GOOD, will you be willing to put your family in it - exclusivley, and accept WHATVER waits for whatever reason ever comes along? Will ya, Barry? How about Nancy, and Barney, and Chris, and Teddy-the-bridgejumper? Will you guys pout your money where your mouths are?

Where is that question at all these press conferences?

The only conclusion I could ever draw, is that people are simply afraid to stand up for their rights and to exert their own authority. That, and there is no real desire for self-government in our country.

Being outside of the federal income tax system is the easiest thing I have ever done in my life. A piece of paper puts you in, a piece of paper takes you out.

The only way they pass HC is to pass amnesty. Cannot work without it.
It is a given. Dems will sell out the country for votes. Can you spell Benedict Arnold?
