on a serious note:

Ken Massa holds his annual seminar the day before the tournament, Wednesday, at the Gold Coast. It is open to the public, so if you are in town for the tourney, stop in and see the latest stuff Ken has been working on. Most of it is now held in the User's Forum. I think he asks for a donation of $40.....much of which goes to the different speakers and the website's webmaster, Rick. Always worth the $40, whether you are an HTR subscriber or not. Starts at 10AM, seats fill fast! Get there early!

Bill,

I'll be there: first time in a contest like this for me.

I did a practice run yesterday with six of the tracks involved and found the whole process very hard.

Looking forward to saying hi.

Best,

Bill C

Bill--
if you left early, you may not realize you came in @ 71st. That is a great job for your first large tournament! Congrats!

That's what I thought, I started the day in the 160's and didn't finish strong. You'll find me about 15K. :)

I was grateful for coming in 71st but I am really happy I stuck to my own game plan and discipline: played no horses in fields with less than 8 entrants, played no horses less than 5/1, cancelled more than 10 bets when the odds fell below my minimum of 5/1, did not try to make side bets with real money when contest handicapping remained to be done, did not chase long shots trying to catch up on the last day -i applied my regular handicaping principles (both selection skills & money mangement) as I would do whether I was in a contest or not. In the past this approach has worked well enough in other contests to get me into the top 5 several times.

I hope to be there again.

Best,

Bill C

P.S. to my last post:

I mentioned something about sticking to my own style of money management during the contest. Upon further reflection, I realize that most of the "money management" is already pre-determined for the contestants by having them make mythical bets in the fixed amounts of $200 to win and to $200 to place.

One other thing I forgot to say: I would never even have had the confidence to go to the Summer Classic and some previous contests if it hadn't been for the people here at paceadvantage.com. Over the years they have encouraged me to work on my handicapping skills and have always been there for me when I had a question or concern.

I am most grateful for that.

God Bless,

Bill C

It's strange that they don't do a better job summing up the tournament on their site (results, maybe some summary text etc.). Especially considering the drop off that LV is experiencing. They could use all the publicity that they could get.
