the online poker rooms continusously upgrade their software to discover "bot" players. Bots play low limit, limit poker ok. They don't play no limit as well, and once you move up in limits, the research I've read is that they have been terrible. There are a number of groups that work on developing them (some are academic, so are more sketchy).

The programs I've been exposed to, at the lower limits, will generate a few bucks an hour in positive expectation (before your account gets banned, and your money confiscated).
