Rachel Alexandra's victory created a rare minus win pool. Of the $726,260 wagered, $598,576 was bet on Rachel Alexandra, who returned $2.10, resulting in a $18,698 minus pool that has to be paid by the tracks and anyplace else that took wagers on the race.

Patrick Mahony, senior vice president of pari-mutuel operations at the New York Racing Association (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/New+York+Racing+Association), could only recall one other minus win pool, when Honest Pleasure won the 1976 Florida Derby (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Florida+Derby).
