Having just returned from a holiday in Lake Tahoe and SF, I bought the Las Vegas Review-Journal going and coming back at Reno's Airport. Anybody who believes MSM is liberal hasn't read the Las Vegas Review-Journal! If I didn't know better, I would have sworn the paper is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Anyway, I can only imagine what effect this MSM rag has had on Lefty over the years. So, as a friendly gesture to my good buddy, here's my suggestion: Spend the extra quarter and buy the San Francisco Chronicle instead! :jump:

It can only help. :p :)

Hey 'Stinks,I was just in Tahoe this past Monday thru Thursday,we could have been in the same racebook at the same time.Anyway, are you hinting that the RJ is rightwing? How about trying a paper that is openly Libertarian/Conservative?Be sure to read the oped pages and columnists.

It is one of the few major papers left in the country that is not run by Bolsheviks.Reading the SF Chronicle,Ny Times,LA Times,Washington Post, etc. is like reading a pre 1991 edition of Pravada.

I was in SF on Monday & Tuesday, BlueShoe. Late Wednesday afternoon I went to the Lakeside Inn & Casino to play the horses for a couple hours but the damn horse computer was down! (It came back online for about 20 minutes and I was able to play the late DD at Stockton and a race at Penn National.) On Thursday I was there for the last 4 races from Belmont, etc. I refuse to play the horses at Harvey's because they think it's great that the place is smokeless. Anyway, the Lakeside Inn got all my baseball action but I did play some NFL and British Open Futures at Harvey's. Actually, I used to enjoy playing in Harrah's Race & Sports Book but they got rid of it a while back.

I'll check out the Orange County Register later on.

Hey, here's a tip if you visit San Fransisco.
If you drop your car keys, kick them along the sidewalk until you get San Diego, then pick them up.

We were within a few feet of each other both Wednesday and Thursday. After the system crash Wednesday sweated it out for awhile.Would have bet three losers and a 5-2 winner at Belmont,so the glitch actually saved me a bit of cash. Finally gave up and went to the Montbleu, which I do not care for.Btw,the Montbleu has gone non parimutual.Did not know this until a couple of locals at the LS informed me.Ended up at Harveys which is so so.The old 2nd floor book at Harrahs was my favorite, but it has been gone for about five years. The LS is now my choice. They comp forms and their 7% free slot play amounts to about a 5% cash rebate in a practical sense. As for the Lakeside, both days I was sitting at the front table last seat on the right closest to the betting windows. The crowd was very light, and I seem to recall a couple sitting two tables behind me.The woman was smoking.Could that have been you and your Missus?

stinks, It's a standoff in Vegas. The RJ isn't liberal but the Sun is. Every newspaper in the land isn't liberal, but thebulk of them are. Just like all the Tv networks aren't liberal, but the bulk of them are. Are you mad cause the libs ain't battin a 1000? It would seem so.

Not at all, Lefty.

I was just teasing you a little. :) Mainly because many here are convinced MSM is biased to the left. Yet the owner of the R-J (Stephens Media Group) owns over 30 papers in 8 states. That's a lot of MSM leaning right. No?

Those 'convinced' are far from wrong. LVRJ is a rag and so are most of the podankie paps they own in Arkansas, et al.

What do you think the score would be if you tallied up the right leaning to the left on a national scale? I say it's a landslide.

Not that it matters. Name any paper worth much nowadays.

Yep, I think that was us, Blueshoe. (I have gray hair if that helps any.) Unfortunately, my wife brought a book with her too which I found totally distracting! :D I wanted to sit at one of the tables in front of the racing TV's where the light was much better but there wasn't much room for two of us. (Actually, I smoke too - cigars - but I didn't smoke inside. I just went down the hall to the left and stepped outside when I lit up.)

I read about Lakeside's free DRF's on their website before we went. That's a nice perk! I didn't sign up for the free slot play because I didn't think I'd play that much in the time I was in Lake Tahoe. I should have.

On Wednesday I wanted to bet the 6-1 shot who won the 4th at Penn National (quit badly on Arlington AWS but was 3 for 12 lifetime on dirt). But the damn computer was down. That's when I decided I couldn't take waiting any longer! :bang:

I remember the guy sitting at the front table on the far left as he was talking quite a bit to the guy at the table right behind him. I wish I could remember you but unless you were the guy who told a teller to print me out the comments sheets on the Meadowlands card Wednesday, I don't. (I think that guy worked there but he was sitting where you were a little before the 3rd race at the Meadowlands on Wednesday.)

At any rate, it was a nice place to play the horses! I wish I lived in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, there are no non-stops to Reno from here. So it actually takes longer to get to Reno than it does London from here. I'm not getting any younger and 12 to 14 hours in transit seems to knock me out more nowadays.

But if all goes well, we'll be back down the road.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever ate at Aliotos on Fisherman's Wharf (Pier 45) in SF? We absolutely loved everything about the place!

Yes,that was you,no that was not me,did not play the night races Wednesday. The drawbacks to the LS are that it is small, cramped, lighting not very good in some places, small tvs,no sound, and no non smoking section. All that said,it is my favorite place for one main reason;comps. Was there on a two night room comp plus some other stuff that enticed me to make the almost 500 mile drive from SoCal.Unlikely that very few of our members have ever been to South Lake Tahoe or ever will, but for those that might visit,if you play at the Lakeside sign up for a players card and have your action tracked. They have a rather screwy system that if used correctly can amount to a 5 or 6 percent cash rebate.7% of your action is accrued in what they call "cool credits".They cannot be used for cash back, food or room credits;they can only be used on slot play. However, used correctly,it can be money in your pocket.Say you wager $500 during the day. After the computer run the next morning updates your account, you take the $35 and pick a machine and convert your points and play the credits any way you like.Along the way you will almost surely get a few payoffs that will accrue. This is real money, not funny money free play credits.Lets say that after you play the 35 bucks in free play you have 30 dollars on the meter. You then hit the cash out button, take the ticket,go to the cage, cash it in,put the 30 bucks in your pocket, and leave. You have just received a 6% cash rebate.Neat.Of course you might have less, but you could also hit a real big payoff.Since this is a minus roi gamble am just taking the long term expectations.

No sound was a big bummer, Blueshoe. Hearing the racecall is not only great for the bettors but adds ambience to a race and sports book.
