A horse called Najran broke the track record for a mile at Belmont today in the Westchester, beating Saarland easily. I read that he tied Dr. Fager's record. If so this is probably the greatest performance of the year.

Do they always break the mile record at Belmont on opening day?? I was there when Williamstown set the mile record in the Withers on opening day a number of years ago. They don't run the Withers at Belmont anymore (now at AQU), but here is another mile stake on opening day, and another record is shattered....

My thinking is the track had a lot of extra "zing" to it....

They need to put an * after this one. Two MSW races @ 8.5f in 1:40 and change at Belmont today. The track crew should be flogged. :p
