Perhaps they could get the weinerdog races going, too.

60-100 mil just to get started?Assume that they would race at night so as to avoid going head to head with Gulfstream. That means small crowds and handle, plus doesnt Pompano harness also race at night in the area?Seems like a bit of a reach at this point.

Assume that they would race at night so as to avoid going head to head with Gulfstream. That means small crowds and handle, plus doesn't Pompano harness also race at night in the area?Seems like a bit of a reach at this point.According to googlemaps and depnding on the route one takes Pompano and Hialeah are 33 to 43 miles apart and in Miami-Dade traffic that's at least an hour.
These places would serve different demographics.
Those visitng Pompano coming from points north and those visiitng Hialeah from points south. Hialeah would seem to have an advantage drawing from a larger population base.
Hialeah is an important piece of history in the sport of horse racing. I hope they can revive the place and bring it back to the beautiful place it once was.
I say, let them try.

That does sound like a huge chunk of change to get the rebuilding started...but hey, it's only money:D
I wonder if Brunetti was waiting for that gambling bill to pass...or if he was the driving force behind getting it signed...no matter, I guess...if they can get Hialeah up from the ashes...what a wonderful thing that'd be.
I would think they will get pretty good crowds to come...most might start off as simply curious to see the place...then, hopefully, they'll come back.
Starting off with QH racing is OK...maybe they'll get the upper class QH's running there...not the little 'bush' track class of horses.
If this happens and they make a go of it...first day they have TB's running..I'm buying a plane ticket to Miami:ThmbUp: ...I have been wanting this for a long time...I spent many a wonderful winter at Hialeah...and next to Saratoga, it was the best place to be.....I loved it down there:)

Hialeah is racetrack royalty and if an effort is being made to save it, I wish them good business and good luck.

Should never have been closed in the first place # 1 Track in the states.

Agreed....if they'd not built Calder, I doubt Hialeah would have closed down...as soon as Clader got going, the battle of the race dates began...
plus, IMO, another factor was that the local gov;t down there alloed that neighborhood to deteriate pretty bad.

Let's keep our fingers crossed it opens, gets good crowds and eventually...the TB's come back.

Dont blame Calder for Hialeah's demise,Hialeah much like GP cant take the summer rains as its a clay based track..If you have spent many a winter here you may remember when Hialeah and GP rotated their dates in the winter.Calder was built with the vision to have a racetrack that could handle the weather in the summer,Remember the tartan track that was first put in?..I myself hope that Hialeah gets going as I myself have spent many a day there.Brunetti was the main reason for its closing.Let all hope!!

I would love to re-visit the Hialeah track whatever form of racing that it decides upon.

I wish Hialeah good luck and good fortune, as well. However, I think they have a great big Pink Flamingo on their hands. (JMHO)

The local government didn't allow the 'hood to deterioriate, the residents of the 'hood did.

I think this will be a fiasco, Brunetti will run the bare minimum of races required to allow him to run his casino, card room, domino parlor.

I hope that Hialeh opens again.

But my brain tells me,that it will probably not happen.

The owner is a nightmare and I guess that it will cost at least fifty million dollars before it can happen and I am not sure that he will spend the money.

Yes, but isn't it the local government that allowed the area to open up to thousands of Cuban's? They took over everything around there...and then it started going down hill...I may be wrong, it has been many years, after all.

Hope you're wrong about Brunetti's 'plan'...and no doubt, he already knows what the cost of re opening is going to be...

Well, it was a combination of lots of things...and I'll stick to me theory that Calder was one of them...and yes, I remember the Tartan track...actually we had Tartan on the backsdie in many walking ring areas at the barns...it was good for walking a horse over to cool out...but racing on it did proove to be not good...it was the forerunner of the crap we have now:) ...they did rotate dates, and the battle for the best is really the bottom line reason Hialeah sut down...
regardless, I can only hope that the place does re open and is a huge hit:ThmbUp: gotta think positive thoughts:)
