June 26th & 27th mark the return of the Iowa Festival of Racing. The festival features six races over two days, anchored by the GII Cornhusker.

I have attached the stakes nomination pp's for everything but the Saylorville, which I will add in another post anyone.

The Cornhusker and the Sprint will be weighted tonight, and should be available tomarrow. If you are so inclined, post what you would make the weights.

We enter on Monday for June 26th and on Tuesday for June 27th. Any questions for regarding the Festival itself, or for those horsemen involved, just let me know and I will try to ask them.

I'll second that - should be two great days of racing.

btw - been loving PRM this year, esp the .50 P4's and watching Cowboy Jack's son ride.

I'm kinda jealous, CBY is going backwards, PM is on the cusp of something big.

Hey Prairie - I'm actually making the drive down to Altoona for Friday and Saturday. I'm a big Canterbury fan up here in MN, but have never been down to Prairie Meadows. How many fans do you expect for the Festival Days? I'm not sure how popular racing is down there, but I'm sure the Prairie Meadows casino has attracted some fans.

Also, do you know if there are any deals going on those days...free admission, food or drink specials? Thanks and I'm looking forward to checking it out.

There is usually a large, but managable crowd for this event. The weather outlook shows a high of 91 and 10% chance of rain.

That being said, if you want an outdoor table get here early 45 minutes to an hour before first post should be enough.

If you want an indoor-non-clubhouse (track level, HOPS lounge, second level by the concession stand) table get here early, real early, two hours or more before first post.

If you want a clubhouse table (trackside tables are all booked) your best shot is to get one of the concourse tables (table without a television). For this you may need to get there when simulcasting opens around 10/10:30ish.

Admission is always free.
Parking is always free.

I am not sure what specials Food and Beverage has going on, but concessions here are really reasonable. Standard concesssion stuff is availabe on the apron. We have a barbaque vendor on the apron that really does a great job as well (~5 bucks for a pretty large sandwich, they also sell racks of ribs, fries, rings, etc.). We have a concession stand on the 2nd level that has a short-order grill and you can buy entire pizzas to go, again, all reasonable, if not inexpensive.

We also have two buffets and one resturaunt. The buffet in the clubhouse faces trackside (Seafood on Friday, Prime Rib on Saturday), and costs $14.95. The other is track-level (no view of racing, tvs, or betting windows) and costs $14.95. The restuarnt is called AJ's and is a steakhouse type place, pasta ~$15, steak ~$25, wine list, etc.

http://www.prairiemeadows.com/dining.cfm to see menus or find out more.

The other thing to be aware of is that minors (anyone under 21) are limited to three areas: 1. The clubhouse, 2. The track apron 3. track-level dining areas (limited availability).

If you have any more questions, about the plant or the festival in general let me know.

Thanks for the info. Its nice that they have free admission. Even Canterbury is $5. Sounds like a good time. I went to the derby this year so I'm used to large crowds. I'm sure the Prairie Meadows crowd will be a cake walk compared to that chaos. I think we will probably be walking around a lot so we might not buy seats. By the time I'm done handicapping, checking out the paddock and making my bet, its almost post time.

Zen--
You will have no problem with the crowds if you have been to the Derby. The wife and I usually get there early and grab a seat just North of the BBQ wagon Patrick mentioned (very good food from it as well). This makes for an easy walk to the paddock, with betting windows half way there and back.
I don't know if we are going to make it Friday night, but I do plan on taking in the Cornhusker Handicap on Saturday night. If you bring the family and they don't care for horseracing, the plant sits right next door to Adventureland Amusement Park. These big race nights do draw a good crowd and you'll probably have a tough time finding a close parking spot unless you get there about an hour early.
If you are walking around look for us just North of the BBQ.....bald guy with a goatee, and probably binoculars....I'll be the only one with binocs.

Track has been conditioned and undercut. Yesterday put 4 loads of water on inside and outside @ 4000 gallons/load. They worked the cushion. Left the pad. With the heat and wind, they track is trying to over dry. Will prob add water after training. Continue with normal maintenance for this evening.

Patrick, we're totally shut out of betting this in New Jersey. Neither Freehold or the Meadowlands is simulcasting PM tonight therefore we can't bet it online either. I know they do simulcast some cards from PM, why wouldn't they offer betting on the two biggest cards of the year? This should give everyone a small idea of what we're up against in this state.

PrairieMeadows
06-26-2009, 07:24 PM
Our simulcast coordinator is aware, and has been pushing our signal to no avail, he indicated that patrons in the state of NJ can use the following site to bet on PRM https://4njbets.com/
