Get the Newest Program here.

http://localpcpros.com/FASTV7.exe

Here we can discuss HOW everyone is using the program =) as requested.

I have to stop changing it now or my wife will divorce me since it is the only thing she uses, she loves all the improvements we have all contributed but is tired of seeing something new each time.

So lets consider it done.

As always...

A word about printing, it works great in firefox, (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/produc...=win&lang=en-US (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.0.10&os=win&lang=en-US)) if you print preview and choose "Shrink To Fit"

Thanks again to all of you =)

Doug

P.S.

If it does not work try adding these to your system....

BTW- hint, when you print like I do to the free Bullzip PDF printer from the internet browser, since the report is in HTML
http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php#download

Be sure to go to...

Even if you are printing to a "real" printer.

Also this is a great PDF tool for "Marking Up the PDF"

Get the free pdfXchange viewer.

This was all tested when opened in Internet Explorer 8 set as the default browser on 32 bit Vista.

I have been told it works fine on XP, Vista 64 bit and even Linux through wine.

The Pace Advantage Toolbar I made some time ago that needs some updating is here (no spyware)
http://handicappers.ourtoolbar.com/

and an app I made for my IPOD TOUCH/IPHONE is here...

Just open this link with the ipod and save it to the main screen.

This is ALL FREE.

Sorry there was a programming error (I mentioned on the last thread that I noticed trying to explain what made up the fast fig) so any of the older ones will come out with different numbers.

more accurate and most likely "tighter" on a scale.

I'm going with the 3. In 84 races @ 6f, at this meet, 42% have gone wire to wire, and the preferred R/S is E. So with that knowledge, and the program numbers, I will go with the 3 to WIN, and the 3 over/under the 1,4,8.

Fight
While the 2 does have a 6 point edge in the FaST #'s, He is 7 points behind on the dirt #'s (using TSN files). That's when I have to either dig deeper or pass the race. I could also make a case for Doug's choice. If he is 8-1 or better at PT. Within his last few starts, he has matched or exceeded PAR for final time @ today's distance and class level. The only horse in the race that has done so. He also is 2 of 4 at this track, and 4 of 10 at this distance. Plus, has the best TOTAL pace rating. ALL of this is what makes this game so complicated.
See my other post for what I will probably play. If the #1 is 8-1 or better @ PT, it could alter my bet.

Good Luck.:)

I used the BRIS single file DRF in the Version 7 of the program for todays 8th.

if you are doing exactly that and getting different numbers then that is very odd?

This is the oddest thing (of course I have never written a program before) so maybe not so strange to someone who knows VB6, maybe it is just Rounding differently?

I'm not getting what you are doing by marking up the summary the way you are. In other words I don't understand how you are coming up with your selection.
I have found that the FAST numbers are a great way to narrow down the field. I believe it was Dick Schmidt that suggested half the field plus one for your contenders. If your field is 8 horses your contenders would be half the field = 4 + 1 = 5. The top 5 (or whatever the field + 1 is) FAST numbers are going to have the winner in there quite often if not most of the time. I don't have the exact % of the time though. It cuts down on your handicapping time.

You need to install a PDF printer, see above. I use bullzip, once installed just choose print like you would to print the report but select the PDF printer instead, it will open up a SAVE to box, save the Printed PDF and it will open in the PDF viewer of choice, use PDF xchange and there are all kinds of markup tools.

Sometimes it is difficult to get your true message across in the electronic format. Yes I am interested in your approach to your selections using your program. It's not that I want to copy you, it's more like getting it from the horses mouth, so to speak. Thanks.

Hi Doug, I downloaded the software and a few bris cards trying to get comfortable with it. I used it on some races at Monmouth today, it was a sloppy track and your Muddy track #'s performed well. First 2 finishers in race 1 had your top mud ratings(also were favorites) Race 2 had turf horses running on dirt, no good way to figure that one. Race 3 had your top muddy rated horse winning. In the fourth race the top two mud rated horses finished 1st and 2nd(morning lines were 6/1 on both). Fifth race had the top mudders finshing 1st (4/1 morning line) and 3rd. In the 6th race the 2nd best rated mudder won the race(3/1ml). In the 7th the 2nd and 3rd rated mudders
finished 2nd and 3rd (4/1 ml and 8/1ml . In the 8th race the top rated mudder won it by double digits (4/1ml). In the 9th the 2nd best mudder finished 3rd (12/1 ml). In the 11th the top mudder won but was the overwhelming favorite anyway.

These are results that I will have confidence in, when faced with a sloppyy track again. Without these numbers I would have been shooting in the dark. I am still getting familiar with it, but I am finding some consistency on routes using the pace figures. I will test it more and update you later. Thanks for your hard work.

Is see what happened now, I put the Dirt Figure in the place where the FAST figure is supposed to be on the Full PP's and omitted the FAST number alltogether =(

My intent was to have the dirt figure there, and I do... but it is mislabbeled as the FAST figure and that "Power Rating" is only on the summary...

So I will correct it as soon as I can until then FAST on the full PP's is "dt" on the summary and the FAST on the summary is not on the full PP's anywhere.

Doug - I love your program but I need some clarification. Using MTH for 06-20-2009 - Race 5 for 8.5F as guide I have the following questions. Horses 5 , 6, 7 have ONLY run in sprints on the dirt. How can they have ratings for aw - tf - my on the summary if they only ran on fast dt? Also - how can they have a DS rating? I thought that was for todays distance (route or sprint). Since they never ran a route they should have no number in the DS field on the summmary sheet. I do like the program and with your programming skill I hope we all on this board make this a GREAT program.

Thanks for the update Doug. I think your program is great. I've been using it at Monmouth Park and doing pretty good with it. One of the ways I use the summary sheet is to eliminate those horses which I feel have no chance. This usually narrows the field to about 4 horses. I then look at the figures and use the top 3 in an exacta. I've been hitting quite a few exactas with this method. Once again thanks for all your hard work.

I don't know if you remember me, but you had me do a small programming job for you a few years ago. I wanted to say how good your program looks. I haven't had a chance to test it much, but have seen some very interesting setups that on face value would have given me a $96 winner at Charles Town yesterday.

Great to see how far you have come. Again very nice piece of work. And most of all, very cool that members here are getting some great results.

I certainly do, and again that's the reason i am giving back, your program motivated me to even pursue it among others.

Pretty sure it would just be a matter of setting it as the default.

Right click on the racedata.htm file then choose open wit, then select from list and choose firefox, be sure to put a check in , always use.

Hi Doug. Messing around with the program and I cam across the 9th at HOL today. Any idea as to why Becrux gets such a low turf rating, which I guess depresses its FAST rating?

Looks like a bug, the distance and turf have been cut pretty much in half for some reason.

THANKS !

Hi Doug,

I've enjoyed following your thread as you developed your program. You've done a nice job. I think most horse players dream of having their own program with ratings that they consider important.

I read that your about done with this program, but I thought I would throw out a couple of suggestions anyway. My own preferences for summary type printouts is to have them sorted on the main rating, in this case your FaST rating. It makes it easier see the gaps between the ratings and also makes it easier to look ahead for Pick 3's and 4's.

If you have room, you might also consider putting the Quirin Speed points that's in the Bris download next to the running styles. A lot of programs included it and it helps in determining which horse might get the lead and visualizing the race.

I noticed you have the numbers formatted to left side of the cells. Formatting to right side would make the numbers line up better.

I also think it would be nice to be able to save your numbers to a csv file that could be read into excel. People could then be able to sort on different ratings, add color coding, do some rankings or save to a database.

Good luck as you move on to your next program.

KyRacer

lsosa54 Found a glaring problem that I have corrected for the next release. sometimes pedigree is * does not exist, the program figured it was there and averaged, causing it to cut the figure in half. making it very small and VERY wrong, seems to be isolated but was corrected.

I have added in a PRINT button to the html report, and an email it button to the program to send the report to your email.

I fixed the Form points being different on the Summary and Full reports and added the FAST and dirt figure to the full report in the correct heading.

I finished the LEGEND and improved the Help File.

It did change the place it needs to be located, it can not run out of any directory but has to be at the ROOT c: (I am trying to correct that) as I am not sure what it will do with linux, and I really want it to work under linux.

so there is a "Find the program process that will go on after unzipping the download" but then a shortcut can be made.

You will also need to set your email information into a configuration file to have that feature work.

===========

KyRacer

Thanks, I cannot sort the data (My programming knowledge is raw...and the report is generated line by line, not stored in anyway to be capable of a sort) but maybe someday as I learn more.

The early Speed points are used but not in the traditional way, the H,M,L so on the report and E (H) would be Quirin points of 7 or 8 an E (M) would be an Early runner with 4,5 or 6 Quirin points. an E (L) would be 1,2 or 3.
I am using the E type as an example, I hope it makes sense.

As for the Justification, that I can and Will pull off. as for kicking them to a csv file, I can do that with headers very easily, I actually can have it do it each time the report is generated and if you want it just go get it from the folder. GREAT IDEA!

So EVERYONE a "fixed" fancied up version with a few more bells and whistles is very close.

douglasw32

Install it and set it as your default PDF application (should do that auto)
then Print the reports to a PDF printer.

Search google for, cutepdf, or Bullzip ( a link to bullzip is at the beginning of each of my threads)

Once you open the report, print to the PDF printer, save the file it produces and it will open in PDF xchange to be marked up =)

So a $2.00 bet on all "green" selections would have cost $20.00 dollars, you would have won $42.00. Did I bet them all, no. Unfortunately my internet was down this morning before work!

Nice job on your picks. The one thing I don't understand is why your ratings including the FAST ratings different from what I have? Not only the ratings are different but the actual rankings are different. I can understand maybe if you used BRIS data and I used TSN data the ratings may be differ but NOT the actual order of rankings in each column if we are both using the same version 8?

I used Bris .drf data files, using the latest version of FAST. I don't know why it would be different.

I use TSN Procap files and while they import fine into FAST all the columns, ratings and rankings are different than what you posted. The only column that is the same is the LR column?

I am pretty sure the data structure is exactly the same from BRIS and TSN Procaps since I know several other software programs can use either. But since they use a different scale you can't mix them within a "database program" but using them in a simple non-database should be no problem. Maybe when some FAST users can post their sheets again using this latest V8.5 and I can recheck their ratings against mine.

I downloaded your .pdf file on hollywood yesterday and watched the races with interest. I have two questions.

1. did you use the Summary Reports only, or did you also look at a racing form to make your selections?

2. did you do your "mark-up" with the Adobe Acrobat .pdf software or something else?

Nice job picking some nice winners.

I just used the summary, no form or anything. I took the top FAST #'s depending on the number of entries, used the top two or three EP top two or three LP. Any that had both a top EP and LP were my choice. In case of a tie I used the Form number, higher the better.

For marking I used the PDF xchange download. If you go back in these threads you will find it. Its great tool and its free. I don't have the link right now but just search these threads.
