i just wonder if anyone has been watching the lower level races in pimlico and laurel these days. it seems when those horses travel to venues like charlestown and penn national, they get beat. tonight king letherberry sent a horse over, secondate. she got demolished. what has happened to racing in the crabcake state?

I had to fix it, can't have my home state spelled wrong. King may object to the spelling of his name, but I can live with that.

Maryland can not compete with Casino-enhanced purses. Past reputations mean little these days where it is now "What have you done for me lately?".

With most other things being relatively equal, owners naturally perfer to run in races with an average purse value of $20K vs. $8K. In essence, Maryland racing has exchanged ladder positions with their previously lower-level neighbors. The horsemen (if they want to race in Maryland) are captives to the state government, who do not seem capable of implementing the the slots solution in a timely manner. Only time will tell if slots revenue will be secured in time to prevent irreparable damage to the Maryland racing industry.

The only place I see winners from MD is with Rigattieri at SUF

On another note, I went to LRL yesterday for simul racing. As I pulled into the lot by the clubhouse, I get stopped by a parking attendant. I jokingly ask him if there is valet parking today, he says no, but that it would be 3 bucks for "park and lock". He was serious. I just drove to the grandstand side and parked for free. Now mind you, they were charging 3 bucks to park on the clubhouse side, but when I get inside, the clubhouse is closed! And the a/c is not functioning on the second floor simulcast area of the grandstand! This place make the PHA seem like a palace.

thats b/c they want everyone to drive an extra 20 miles down the road to pimlico.
paying to park for a simulcast card could be the lowest form of cheap
