Writing the legislation was the easy part...

Even in the unlikely event the bill passes, it's going to be immediately challenged in court.

It's interesting that as usual, the horsemen will be the main beneficiaries of slot machine revenue at Kentucky tracks, if this bill is passed. And as usual, the horsemen 'get the goldmine' and horseplayers 'get the shaft'..i.e, nothing, nada, zilch (if you can't read between the lines) like at most racinos.

I hope this slot machine bill is nixed one way or another, and for Kentucky racetracks to forget about this form of welfare and start start earning more money by self-reliance with lower takeouts for example. Oh yeah...KEENELAND'S already one of the leaders in the USA in lower takeout rates...AND THEY'VE DONE IT WITH NO SLOT MACHINE REVENUES! Good for them.

I agree with the critics of the Kentucky Governor's plan for slot machines at their state racetracks. They contend that this slot machine proposal should be voted upon 'by the people of Kentucky' and not politicians. In my opinion, if it's going to be voted on in one way or another, let the citizens vote on it at a proposition at the ballot box, and not by some sleazy politicians heavily influenced by campaign contributions given them in the past by racetrack lobbyists.

And I also agree with one other critic in the comments by readers below the column, when he said something like...."How come there's no mention of any money for gambling addict treatment?". The critic should have also mentioned..."How much money will the Kentucky government provide for all the other social problems caused by addicted slot machine gamblers?" All the Governor of Kentucky can rattle off through his rose-colored glasses, is all the slot machine money that would be available for racetracks, horsemen and allegedly to taxpayers.

Slots are like heroin for horseracing. u feel good for a while, but pay the piper when the supply (of money) dries up. The racinos will eventually cry that racing is a drag on the bottom line and petition for permission to operate without this burden. Slots for horseracing is socialism in it's most nefarious form. Horsemen u have been warned, so don't cry when it becomes reality. Lower the takeout subsstantially and watch gamblers flock to your betting establishments.
