That sure looks like alot and there are probably more. Was there a horse called Sierra Sunset going for the derby?

Thanks Cat. I did a search on that one, I think he was a drop out from last year though....2008.

Amazing list. I always try and goad my friends into a bet and say on January 15th. Name me any three horses (3yr) u want. I guarantee you one of them won't make the Kentucky Derby.

A good reason to put a reasonable wager on {the field} during the 1st Derby Futures round. At least this year, it made up for my losses when MTB won the Derby.

It would be really interesting to see if this year was worse than prior years. It seems to me that it was particularly bad. Quality Road, The Pamplemousse and I Want Revenge were favorites within the month before the Derby - I don't remember that happening before.

the radar .

I'm gonna keep updating til the end of 2009.

There are others, this is just the list of the "major" players.

Looks to me like our best and brightest can't make it past their beginning of 3rd year as *racehorses* anymore.

Regal Ransom - popped curb, right hock/soft tissue injury
Midshipman- soft tissue injury left foreleg
Beethoven - slight tendon injury
Theregoesjojo - fractured skull
Saratoga Sinner - left knee chip
Win Wille - hairline fracture ankle injury
I Want Revenge - serious ligament injury
Dunkirk - non-displaced condylar fracture
General Quarters-knee chip
Friesan Fire - left front stress fracture & non-displaced chip fracture right front fetlock
The Pamplemousse- lesion on tendon
Desert Party - diplaced ankle chip after Derby
*Quality Road - multiple quarter cracks
Old Fashioned - slab fracture knee
Square Eddie - shin injury micro fracture
Point Encounter- soft tissue injury (was on the KY Derby Trail at one point)
Flat Out- stress fracture, shoulder
Ryehill Dreamer - fractured pastern
Pioneer of the Nile - Retired due to soft tissue injury
Musket Man - bone bruise, out for rest of 2009

Charitable Man - returned to racing after saucer fracture
This Ones For Phil - returned to racing after cast in stall + injured pastern
Giant Oak - taken off Triple Crown Trail due to injury - but has returned to racing

plus earlier hopefuls noted by other posters in topic.

* not taking Quality Road off the list because there is no telling how long his "career" as a racehorse will be with 2 quarter cracks

I don't think Giant Oak was ever injured. There was only six weeks between his race in the Illinois Derby and his win in the Arlington Classic. And he just ran again today.
