Ok, heres the problem:

3 computers running XP (5 hard drives)
1 laptop running Vista (1 hard drive)
2 printers
1 Wireless Router

I have files I need access to on two or more computers. I can share a file (if I know where it is) but it takes awhile to search and locate it. I also have a shared printer set up on both printers.

Here's what I want to do but don't know how:

I want to set up a network so I can get to all computers hard drives without setting up the individual files as shared files before I go looking.

Can I do this without having a server setup or additional hard or software expense.

Yes, you can share drives/ partitions/folders - same as individual files.
You do put your files at higher security risk though.

Hardware to do that centrally would be something like Network Attached Storage, Iomega NAS 150D 3TB Server which cost about £785 in UK. It has full RAID 5 etc for data security.
