In hindsight, (and before the race as well), I can say that you were right in my opinion.
We will not see a whole bunch of dutch opportunities this good all year. This is why we bet 2% of bank. Even when the horseplayer has a great edge, any individual play can lose. Making the right play does not guarantee a win. Making small enough bets of the right play over enough times, does guarantee a win.
