More and more evidence as to why they are NOT non-lethal

As one who experienced a severe electrical shock, I can verify that a "shock" above minimum milli-amperes across the heart can be disruptive to the hearts normal rhythm. A shock in or near 75 ma can cause death. This is the equivalent a 15 watt light bulb 120 volts A-C.

There is zero doubt in my mind that the use of tasers have and will continue to cause the death of those who have been the victims of such a procedure.

In keeping with my previous posts, i will say however that 99.999999999% of those who put themselves in this position are by no means innocent victims.

I think that tasers are quite a bit less lethal than 44 magnums. That was the previous means of taking down a threat to the arresting officers.

What should they do? Perhaps invite the perp to high tea?

I am all for eliminating tasers if you can produce a more effective means of subduing someone who is threatening the officer or resisting arrest.

Batons, cuffs, pepper spray, physical force all can be effectively used UNLESS the perp has a deadly weapon, at which point all restraints are off.

An out of control drunk(s) can and have died from being tasered and that is simply (pardon the play on words) overkill.

All of the methods you mention have also killed some in the past. How do their stats stack up against the taser? (I don't know, I am asking). I can remember several instances in the Kansas City area where the police used physical force to subdue drunks or druggies who subsequently died. All hell broke loose.

Suppose that a woman officer about 5'5" 112 pounds pulls me over for erratic driving. I am drunk. I am 6'0" 250 pounds. She gets out of her car and I stumble out of mine. She starts telling me what she wants me to do. I give her some crap. She tells me to calm down and I tell her about how I am a Marine - a trained killer and I could kill her with my bare hands. She can see that I am a little out of shape and perhaps 30-40 years away from any active duty, but she can't really know what I might be capable of. Then I begin to dance around with my hands out like I was looking for a wrestling take down. Personally, I think she should just taser me right now cause I am not going peacefully and maybe could put her in danger. If I have health problems that cause the taser to kill me, tough. I basically gave her no choice but to do something to subdue me without taking a chance on her own well being.

The use of a taser, like all means of force, can be deadly and should be used judiciously, that is my point.

As I have said, the key for an offender is to not be combative.
