Two recent events; one in Arlington and the other in Dallas

#1 - Is it okay to show your patriotism at the office?

For one Arlington woman, the answer was “no” after she hung an American flag in her office just before the Memorial Day weekend.

Debbie McLucas is one of four hospital supervisors at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield. Last week, she hung a three-by-five foot American flag in the office she shares with the other supervisors.

When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. “I was just totally speechless. I was like, ‘You’re kidding me,’” McLucas said.

McLucas’ husband and sons are former military men. Her daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic.

Stifling a cry, McLucas said, “I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing.”

McLucas said the supervisor who complained has been in the United States for 14 years and is formerly from Africa. McLucas said that supervisor took down the flag herself


#2 - Frank Larison's homeowners association in Woodlands II on the Creek has threatened to tow his car if he doesn't remove the decals on the back windshield, including the Marine Corps emblem and a diamond-shaped 1st Marine Aircraft Wing insignia.

Another proud chapter in the history of Baltimore City. This "ban prayer" in public schools movement began here in Baltimore. I remember it well.

Let's not forget Ms. McLucas' and Mr. Larison's first amendment rights here. The American flag and Marine Corps decals are not offensive.
Except for the very minor Quibble that a three foot by five foot flag may not be appropriate for an indoor office environment, I agree with you. And if that flag was hung just for the Memorial Day weekend I have no compaint at all.

If you believe in individual liberties, and in the freedom of religion, than it should be clear why prayer has no business in public schools. If you want your kids to pray in school, send them to a private religious institution.

PA, that test is stacked in mostposts favor - for Bush and Rutabaga, you are basically only looking at one poster who used rutabaga. On Obama, many posters use the commie or socialist labels. A more fair test might be to see how 46's use of Rutabaga stacks up against Tom's use of commie/socialist. Or rerun the original test while adding in Hcap's cartoons. ;)

speaking of Patriotism attacked, i went to a fun show last night, Anthony Bourdain from the travel channel did kind of a lecture/comedy/Q and A show here in portland, mostly talking about travel and food.

It was actually quite enjoyable except for the audience. My favorite part was at the beginning when he made fun of vegans and told them basically what chit heads they were.

Anyways, so during the Q and A, some girl goes "one problem i've had with traveling is being embarrassed to be an American, how have you dealt with that?"

His response was along the lines of "you have nothing to be embarrased about" and that her point was not well founded.

I'm just floored how many people that live here, seem to hate us so bad. and so much of it seems to be from some wierd guilt they have for enjoying freedom and good things in the world.

Instead of spending over 600 billion bailing out GM, it would better if they had just filed bankruptcy in the first place. By doing it this way Obama is getting to give his cronies, i. e. the UAW an ownership position. And he himself is setting the direction of the company. I didn't get the name, but Obama has put a 31 yr old, who has never seen an auto plant, in charge of redesigning GM. Of course he will report to Obama.
Obama will not let GM import cars that GM makes overseas into the U.S.
