I was really hoping it would be Penn! :)

Can we advocate a boycott of a track now?

Seriously, Canterbury seems like a pretty good choice.

If it was at PEN I might be able to cash a ticket! I hope your figs are smokin on the CBY turf Cj.

HANA should get whatever track to name the pool party race after HANA at least for the one time!

Don't mean to be picky, but I know that the Sampson's, current owners, would like to see you edit the post to "Canterbury Park".:)

OH, ok, thanks CJ. I thought I was going nuts. But that is fairly common.

I've been to the Cathedral, but never the Park. :)

I'm pretty sure at one time it was known as Canterbury Downs.

Since I have attended every opening day at Canterbury, a brief history. Opened in 1985 as Canterbury Downs. After a couple of great years, things started to go downhill with the advent of the opening of indian casinos. The track was actually was closed in 1993 and 1994 when no live racing took place, It was then reopened in 1995 under new ownership and with the name change to Canterbury Park. An interesting note that most on this board probably don't know. Unbridled raced there in a stakes race as a two year old and lossed.:)

FYI It's raining here today fellas.

I wish I could participate in this week's party because I've never missed one, but being a Minnesota resident, I cannot bet CBY online. The irony....join in on every pool party, except the one in my home state, at my home track, because they wont allow betting on the MN tracks by MN residents.

It's just such a shame. I make it up to the track maybe 10 times during a meet (at $5 a pop for admission), but I would bet every day they run here if I could. Instead, I'm sending my money to Iowa, California, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and New York. :bang:

CBY's owners are HOPELESSLY short-sighted when it comes to this issue, I've contacted them many already times over it and will continue to do so many times in the future until it changes or my fingers fall off.

We will place that in the post-race wrap up.

Thanks Slappy

Your not unique MNS. I'm a leisurely 5 hour drive from Lone Star (3 hours from Retama and an hour and a half from HOU) and they expect that restriction here to "force" me to attend live  . Consequently the Tx circuit is one that I am least familiar with. My money goes out of state.

I checked with someone in Toronto, and today's track isn't available on HPI. Not on PTC either.

Looks like I'm an unwilling watcher today.

According to the Changes list on Canterbury's website Race 8 is off the turf with the 4 and 7 scratched

If you want to play race 8 on a firm turf, Twinspires will take your bets.

9 go to post, and there is probably some value as per the conditions, but I think this HANA Pool Party is one I will only stick my big toe in with a dime Super.

Not one single mention of HANA.I didn't hear one either. This week's pool party won't be mentioned in HANA's list of accomplishments with almost negative impact in the pools.

I think we need to approach these with tracks that can be accessed by everyone, and notification to TVG and HRTV so they can jump on board.

wow the Ness shipper from Tampa, surprise surprise

well guys I would've participated, like I said.....someone needs to look up how many HANA members are in MN and point out that none of them were able to bet on the track today. No HPI, no PTC, no MN residents. Ugh. Memorial Day weekend though too, I'm sure that didnt help with the participation level this time around.

Cangamble

Did most HANA members think it was a boycott this week?

Kidding aside, I wonder if the big betting supporters from HANA are Canadians.
We were completely shut out yesterday.

memorial day weekend here in the states. I'd guess at least half of HANA members are on some sort of vacation. I know I was out all day yesterday.

I really think the group needs to get away from focusing on trying to measure every single event as if the number is crucial. The focus should be on doing something that makes sense.

Not that I have any problem with Canterbury, but why did we choose them? (thats rhetorical). There has to be some consistent explainable rationale to what is going on. Something better than "trust me they're good peoples." That is fine for getting your friends to do something, its not going to inspire a broader audience to do anything.

The focus should be on doing something that makes sense.

I'm starting to think that the organizers of the pool parties, procott, whatever its called, have no clue.

How can you show strength in numbers when you fracture your base and pick numerous tracks which are unknown, unappealing or unavailable?

Stick with one track which is ultra-supportive......appealing to most/all......available to all.....gain a familiarity base....and build momentum. Then you can expand to other tracks.

MNslappy

Well, it does have to be a track where one can point to the handle and say "there we are, that's us, that's the power we have, thousands and thousands of dollars and hundreds of people and growing every day." So it does make sense to me to pick the middle tier tracks a lot of the time.

I would definitely not do it anywhere near a holiday again though. Aside from people being gone, it's also typically a time when the media spotlight is lowest. The old political cliche about trying to bury a story on the Friday of a holiday weekend is a cliche for a reason.

Your issues, as well as others with the race have been discussed Slappy, and picked up by Seth at Equidaily. Although it was not the goal when picking the CB race, it is good to see some awareness of the problems that we go through with ADW.

via equidaily:

>>> Horseplayer assoc's latest 'buycott' runs into roadblocks that demonstrate many of the problems the group is trying to address... "I have three ADW's. I could not play the race." (http://blog.horseplayersassociation.org/2009/05/canterbury-pool-party-state-of-business.html)

I'd like to see us support the largest field that has the biggest purse of the w/end. With some discretion for weather forecasting and all.

Which reminds me, what happened to that 5 furlong stakes turf dash at Colonial? 13 or so entered, 4 ran? (longest price won too) Was it that Colonial, Belmont and Woodbine all had big turf races on the same w/end which watered each event down? Only NY was rained off.

Together we stand, divided the horseplayer plays elsewhere.

That's my vote and I'll continue to play super's each week on our race of choice.
